Default Interior lights in 86 928 stopped having a delay, why?

I have a 1986.5 928. Before when you closd the doors there was a delay of around 20 secs until they shut off. Now they are still working, but there is no delay. Now you shut the door and they are off right away.
Thanks in advance

[edit] I shared the wrong answer -- see relay notes below.

Isn't that function controlled by a relay? If so, maybe it's toast.

Everything works, the only issue is the delay.

It's relay #21 and it costs ~$200 - Don't recall the P/N, but it's available on the supplier sites.

As stated above, it is location XXI part number is 928 618 225 01. 86.5 was the introduction for the delay timer for interior lights. 928 international has used listed for $45.

Interesting...my '86.5 has never had a delay since I've owned it. I assumed that was a feature of newer models.

I can't say exactly when it was implemented. I know my 85 didn't have it and my 86.5 does. the 86 wiring diagram also has it included, so can't say it it was all 86 or just 86.5+.

Just hat the same issue - changed mentioned relay and the Interior lights remain on again for 20 secs after closing the door.

Interesting. Mind if I ask for the old relay, I fix undocumented technology and am curious as to what went wrong. All data will be published on this forum.

Sure. I write about just about everything I do on my car. So far I have figured out the ignition FETs, cruise control issues (servo and controller), defroster problems, running double end capped PAG in the AC, rebuilding the ISV, etc. I've also written tons about the US Electricar series of electric drive systems, and the like. As these things age out we're going to have to figure out how to fix parts instead of just tossing them.

Your mileage may vary.
