Bring Back the Porsche 928!
So, I have been thinking that we should bring back the Porsche 928 as a GT car to compete with the Aston Martin DB11, Bentley Continental, and the Ferrari Portofino. It would keep its fastback design for more trunk space and to be consistent with the original 928's design, and it would use a twin-turbocharged V8 making about 600-650 hp. What do you think?

You do realize that the current version of the 911 is almost the exact same size as the 928, right?
Luxury, comfort, all the things a GT car needs.
There's no reason Porsche would bring back the 928. Or bring out a 2 door version of the Panamera.

not to mention Porsche doesn't even call the 911 variant a 911 anymore.

I think Porsche is more interested in the pickup market. They announced an alectric pickup today called the Macaw. It is a vehicle in a class of its own. The Functionally Optimised Outdoor Lyfestyle segment of the market.

With the amazing Panamera Turbo S e-Hybrid in the available Porsche range... Do we really need a coupe?
Although I did just buy a 911 Turbo to fill the void of no modern 928... (limited luggage is the missing part).
So I'm answering my own coupe question. Hell yes we need another 928 in the Porsche lineup!!!

I felt the same way in 2010 and realized that if I wanted a current super car like the 928 it was going to be 2 choices,,,
-----sell the 928 and buy the amg gt or something similar or.....
----- send the car to get a stroker engine
SENT to PRECISION MOTORWEKS and got a super car without the 150k price...
and it is all I ever wanted, the 928 with the power of a super car and the rarity of the 928 !!!!! 600 hp at the crank

I think its possible but I don't think it will be an ICE drive train. I think Porsche may test the waters with a 2 door Taycan at some point which will probably look somewhat like a modern 928. It might even serve the same role as the 928 - a car designed to replace the 911 (I'm not going to guess if it'll succeed or not). Once the 911's rear engine is gone and that space converted to cargo, it'll probably become a lot more 928-like too.
I also think that in the EV future, we'll see a lot more models from manufacturers simply because it will be cheaper to develop. The future is skateboard chassis of varying sizes with differing body kits, interior packages, battery pack sizes and 'software' (just wait until Porsche offers a $20,000 software upgrade that unlocks an extra 200hp). Cars will look different but mostly handle the same.

Nelak,
I remember thinking the same thing when the Saturn came out, just replace panels and change to your whim but never happened.....lots of reasons I guess...

Your choice to send your car to Precision Moterwerks was spot on! The value and near analog experience of a 928 GT or GTS is fantastic.
I'll address the "New 928" concept on a NON-ICE platform in a response to Nelly's post...

I think the 911, will be in Porsche's future for a long time. I do think the Cayman will be the companies hot dog car in the future with it's mid engine design. Many suggest that the piston engine is on it's way out, maybe. I'm 76, and I'll never see it in the time I have left. BTW, the car above is awesome looking!
There will never be another 928. Porsche has no reason to build it. Times changed, and just because we love and enjoy the 928, doesn't justify the cost to produce one.. I'm happy with the one I have. A new 928, would have a price in the stratosphere. Way to much for me at my age.
FWIW, I'm considering a Lambo Jalpa, always liked the way they look. If I want super fast I've got my Pantera.
