Blaupunkt Reno Sq 46 Cassette help

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...826bad8409.jpg
My 88' came with the original Blaupunkt Sq. 46 in it. It works great, except the cassette. When I put a tape (young people, we use to call Cassettes "Tapes") in, it just shifts from one side to the other, thus it won't play. Does anyone have any ideas how to make the cassette play? I graduated H.S in 1987 and I have some old cassette tapes I'm dying to play

I'd guess the belts are slipping on the capstains. You can remove the top and take a look, but since these radios are pretty valuable (for some reason, they always drove me nuts) you might be better off finding someone who can professionally repair/refurbish it.

The belts are in fact the culprit. There's an auto-reverse function that watches to see the cassette stop at the end of direction. With a tired/broken belt the tape never moves. Try rotating the cassette tape with your fingers to make sure it isn't stuck. You can remove the cover on the radio and puff some compressed air through the mechanisms and sensors on the chance that something is blocking the tape movement sensors from seeing the tape actually move. That will give you a look at the belts such as they are.

Contact SW Stereo for more guidance and his refurb options. He's added connection options that support more modern features, including BT input and better amplifier connections. As others mention, the original radios are moving up in value as working examples become more scarce. Full cosmetic and functional refurb examples can fetch in the $1k range. I'm saving my original low-miles example to send one of K's cats to college.

Thank you so much guys. I won't ever change it out. I will continue to listen to the radio or turn it off and listen to the sweet V8.

My Blaupunkt Monterey SQR 23 exhibits a similar behavior. I came across this YouTube repair series and have yet to try it, but it may have enough similarities to the Reno cassette to help you diagnose the issue.

Thanks to all.

In the event you do not have the manual (I don't). I contacted someone who was selling a 928 on BaT who showed a picture of the manual, and he was kind enough to email me this. I couldn't figure out how the fader operated until he sent it. Sorry it's coming in sideways.

Yep...I do have the original Radio Manual. It's cool that the car came with all of its original manuals including the CE Panel pamphlet.

Did you ever find a solution to this? My '88 951 is having the same issue now.

If the tape player just switches sides endlessly then the belt has either popped off or needs to be replaced.

..and this is the smallest of the problems.

You'd be shocked (pun not intended) what a re-cap and refresh will sound like.
