Throttle link fell off
This is embarrassing. Spent the morning fixing the rubber boots on the intake drove a bit and am now stuck with the throttle link disconnected at the throttle body.
Why me?
Tow truck on way but anyone know what needs to be removed to fix? Do I go in by pulling the maf or from the side by pulling the intake distributor again?
And why did it fall off? I did not touch it.

are speaking about the metal bar from where the wires connect and then the bar goes towards the throttle body and connects under the intake plenum? if so mine did that and I was able to just line it up and with a long screw driver pop it back on

Yup. That's it. I popped it off the bellcrank and looked at it while waiting for the tow truck. The throttle end was really greased and it didn't snap too tightly on the bellcrank end of things. So while trying to get the tow hook cover off while waiting for the tow truck I thought "Maybe I could fix this".
Shone a light into the tunnel in the engine where the pushrod goes and sure enough I can see a little silver **** at the end. Can't get it on without something to push it, if only there was a tool store somewhere nearby!
It's not Snap-on, but maybe it will do.
Got a long screwdriver....
I hope it doesn't bend....
Angled it in there with the pushrod and *click* it connected. Hooked up the other end (it's a bit off center, will fix that at home), fired up the car, had full power, canceled tow truck service and drove home.
I am a self-rescuing princess!!!!
Bigger question is do I need to replace this rod? It doesn't seem to snap too well and perfectly centered at the throttle end is slightly askew at the bellcrank end so I can adjust that with the locking nut. Still, should these be replaced? I'll be adding "big honking screwdriver" to the tool kit.
Never a dull moment in 928 land....

Hm. Looking at this further I can see a potential issue.
The problem is the throttle link is running *right next to* a major vacuum line probably coming off the manifold. My guess is my taking off and putting on the driver's side manifold pushed against the linkage and caused it to pop off eventually.
I did take the linkage off, set it so the bellcrank end is a perfect 90 degrees from the throttle end, and put it back on. It's not rubbing against the line (in fact as you go to full power it drops slightly and has clearance) but man it is super close. As in 0.00mm clearance :-)
The vacuum pipe is the line on the left. Throttle is at 50% for max deflection inboard at the bellcrank.
Thoughts? Is this normal?

Get a rod-end with a sliding cover or a spring. Remove either the middle T of the intake air system of the left air-distributor. put the rod end on near the throttle body. Then hook the rod up at the front crucible. Re-assemble. Never worry again.

Continuing this thread: Reversed the rod and it seemed to hold on better, but when I was an an Autocross with a hot engine it disconnected again.
Took a look at the linkage this weekend: It looks like inside each end there is a circlip that sits in a groove and these circlips are what is worn. Given that replacing this with a new one would be difficult (does anyone sell new ones of the right length anymore) I was wondering if it's possible to buy a new circlip and fit it in.
Thoughts?
