Tire recommendations for 18 inch wheels
After 5 years and 20k miles, my Continental Extreme Contact DW are at the wear bars. Overall a good tire for what I use them for...40 miles per day, driving in good weather, mostly highway. The occasional scenic drives to Sedona, Flagstaff, Tucson, San Diego. I don't track the car. They were noisy when new at well-over the posted limit speeds on less than glass smooth roads (typical of AZ), and are worse now. That is my only complaint. I currently have 18 inch 5 spoke Panamera take offs with the following sizes. Front 225/40/18, Rear 265/35/18.
What do you recommend? I was considering Michelin (by reputation), but I'd love to hear what sage advice you have on what's new! Thanks in advance! Brian

I’ve run these Hankook tires on my 89 S4 and now on my 91 GT and like them very much. Mostly good weather driving local and highway. No winter driving as they are summer tires and I live in NewEngland. I did do an autocross in the rain and they handled very well.
I run 8” front and 10” rear Carrera III 18” wheels. They are also not expensive and balance very well.

I have the same Panamera wheels on mine. I have been running BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2 for the last couple years. Fronts are 235/40/ZR18 & Rears are 265/35/ZR18. They have worn very well, low noise, good ride quality. . Very happy with them and I like the tread pattern. I have run many different Brands over the years on this car. Some wear out in a blink like the Continentals you are taking off. Yep, the BFG`s don`t have some fancy Euro name but have been great tires.

+1 for Hankook - excellent tires.

I'm running Nitto Invos - same tire (different size) that I run on my supercharged 997.
Front - 18x8 - offset 57 with Nitto Invo 235/40-18
Rear - 18x10 - offset 65 with Nitto Invo 295/35-18
Awesome tire for the price. Good in the wet, super sticky in the dry, good tread life and I think about 1/2 the cost of the Michelins. Cool looking and functional tread design too. Been through 2 sets on my 997 and on my 2nd set on the 928, and I'll buy a 3rd, 4th, etc. Probably switching the 914 over to them as well.
We run the Hankook evo2 on my wife's 997 so I can compare the 2 on that platform for you. The Hankook may edge the Invo just slightly in super heavy rain, everywhere else the Invo is better, except tread life. Originally I had the Invos on her car too, but she was burning through the rears every 10k miles or so. Hankooks are lasting about 18k but don't have the same level of dry road grip or cornering feel, if that's important for how you drive your 928.

Only problem with Unidirectional (instead of Asymmetrical) tires and a staggered setup (different front & rear sizes) is that you can't rotate them side to side on the car without a dismount from the wheel and remount/rebalance. The Sumitomos and the Hankooks are both Directional this way.
