Default Need Some Help With Headlight Motor

Lili is a 79, for which I now own two headlight motors. Both motors, when jumped to engage the headlights to the up position, rotate the lights through their movements. My original was removed, its disc, its 3 contacts cleaned and new diodes installed. The second motor was also cleaned and new diodes had been put in place of the factory ones by the PO. I have swapped out my original relay, known to have failed, for a used working factory original, and the lights come on with the switch's turning and off when the switch is turned off but they do not rotate up or down. I have emailed with Alan, who has been extremely helpful, identifying diodes needed and suggesting cleaning methods, but I'm still stuck with no movement. should the ignition switch be the next place to look?

Alan is the man for 928 electrical recommendations. If he can't help you ID the problem in the headlights then the problem is elsewhere. We tried everything when my headlights were acting up (turn on and come up, but when turned off they wouldn't go back down) we tried everything, replaced the relay, rewired the motor, etc... Finally, on a hunch we took out the NEW relay and replaced it one out of another car / same year, etc, and the damn things worked. I bought ANOTHER new relay and the headlights work as designed. Apparently, the first new relay was bad right out of the box. The only relays for the headlights are aftermarket (original are NLA) and the replacements are not high quality. BTW, buy your relay from Roger Tyson at 928sRus and you'll get the correct relay. Don't buy off of Ebay... especially electronics. Hope this helps.

Red flag in bold.
