Stirling, I think yours fits the bill. I saw it a long time ago at SITM, and what a car then! Also, Just Peachy is a resto mod, as are a few others.

no doubt if I ever listed mine here some would call it gold and some would call it coal.... and people would be on both sides of without ever seeing it in person or driving it.
So true... I used to take my Outlaw GT to Porsche shows (leaving the 911's at home) and park it deliberately away from the main groups of cars.

Two reasons:

1. I did not want to listen to the "Sheeple" and their litany of ignorant statements regarding the car and its capabilities.

2. As a way to watch for people that would take a few extra steps to look at and appreciate it.

So many Porsche people make blanket statements regarding 928's as if they are authorities. As soon as you question them if they have ever owned one, driven one, or even been a passenger in one, the answer is "NO". Their desire for acceptance and willingness to plagiarize opinion astounds me. The problem with this "Sheeple mentality" is that it has affected the value and survival of 928's in general.

Perception is reality for many...

I think of RestoMod in terms of and association with American Muscle cars and unique pickups etc.

My thoughts regarding customized Porsches, including 928's?

They are "Outlaws".

So... RestoMod and Outlaw are synonymous but a bit different applications in my mind.

This is mostly from Porsche allowing respected automotive journalists to say those things for decades.

And still do today.

I used restomod for years to explain my 928 to other car folks that are not Porchephiles. When it was at SITM it was rather t rather tame. Upgrades since SITM include F50 brakes, ITB's Z06 6speed and more. Making it more of a bastard, and outlaw than restomod. I agree that at some point people will accept the 928 as it is, and understand what the restomoded 928 really is.

I had submitted my 1991 GT to "What's My Car Worth" on Velocity TV (Now Motortrend) on Cable. It was back in the Spring of 2013. Not many 928s had come up in Auction so I was interested in what they would say. They gave it $25K, but actual they said that if two people were in the room at the action the sky is the limit. I guess my GT is now worth north of $55K at least.

Just to be nit-picky - cause that's what we do around here - how can you rate your interior a 9 with those conditions, Kev?

Because I can't see the cracks from the driver's seat, but seriously, you are right to question it. As is 7.5; with the new pod 8.5. Sound better?

I'll throw another one into the fray... And expect to be roasted, tarred and feathered for my stewardship of this particular car.

1990 GT with 155,000 on it. Bought in 2002 with 92,000 miles and a bad Florida sunburn including the paint and interior. The clear coat was absolutely roasted and falling off and the full leather interior was curled up and dried out. The pod & dashboard a spiderweb of cracks. Surprisingly, the car came with a big stack of mechanical records that indicated regular service with all important oil and coolant changes. The dealer had it listed as an S4 and once I confirmed it was a real GT with its original motor and transmission intact, it was purchased $14k. Immediate needs were the torque tube and a proactive complete Timing belt, WP service, Transmission re-seal PSD & brake flush, plugs, wires, fuel lines etc...

Since I owned a few 911's and had an 88 S4 5-speed that was my main driver, the car enjoyed intermittent use. Whenever I walked into droomans former shop in Florida, I would hear the word "racecar" repeated over and over in hushed but not reverent tones.

Sooooo, "Delete" as I have named this beast ended up loosing nearly 500 lbs and becoming, not a racecar, but an Outlaw 928... Major disassembly paint job and hundreds of hours of creativity & attention to detail has resulted in the fun to drive car pictured below.

It's not for sale, but what is it worth???

Bespoke Carbon Fiber dashboard...

What all was taken out?
I can see that the HVAC head & stereo head unit are both gone.

Being 'altered' is going to cost something. The purists won't go for it anywhere near as well.
But the enthusiast crowd might.

Miles will, again, deter the collector crowd, but not the knowledgeable.

There was a 200k mile GT that sold very quickly for $41k (?) a month or so ago.
Like yours, it had the very strong advantage of full records that showed proper care. It had the 'Greg Brown/Precision' pedigree, so those who know these cars know that the work was done both correctly and completely.
Depending on what all was changed, I wouldn't be surprised to see this one be worth above $30k. Maybe well above.

Stereo is completely deleted but the HVAC is managed by simple pull cables to the right of the drivers knee... Shooting for a near analog experience.

No purist would touch this thing, it is the polar opposite of my XX8 GT and GTS.

Deleted:
Dashboard replaced with carbon fiber
Stereo
Bumper supports and shocks
Rear seats & belts
Airbags
Anti submarine pads
Rear quarter panel leather
Toolkit
Spare
Hatch release
Rear wiper
12 way Seats replaced with lightweight Recaro's
Front airflow flap system
Interior sunroof plate
Rub strips
Rear visors
Seatbelts replaced with Harness bar and 5 points
Air pump & cat
Devek stage 2 headers, X Pipe & RMB

Lots of other bits and pieces fell off.

Exceptions include the latest trends in resto mods. Those sales prices (both ask and get) have gone up significantly of late. Randy's car is hardly a resto mod.

It's a great car, but outside of a fairly small population (us 928 guys and gals) most will not appreciate it and see it for what it is.
so what I should do is sell my essential stock GTS 5 speed, 1 of 6 made for the CDN market, for $150,000? then turn around and buy Randys for $35k and pocket the rest .........ok, for those in the 'broader market', for more details please PM

Absolutely not! You should keep your GTS and Randy should keep his car... You both know what awesome cars you have!

Malcolm, Randy's car is worth at least 70K, but I like the way you think! If you can get Randy to sell ya his for 70K, and sell yours for a buck fifty, you'd be in fat city! Win, win all the way.
