Default Car fire averted

I might be there luckiest person I know. After driving my 91 S4 to get the tint I noticed a persistent gas smell. Popping the hood I found a pin hole leak in the line that runs over the PS cam cover.

This!

Happy that you found the problem before it was too late.
Good catch.

Have the rebuilt fuel lines in hand. They go in this weekend.

Ordering a few fire extinguishers, too.

Well, you get at least partial credit for sensing the problem, not entirely luck here.

Im wondering how that line failed like that. If it was the original it should have a hard plastic line under the rubber sleeve. I took my old one apart from my 1990 s4 and the line underneath and the outer rubber all looked in good condition. Long story as to why I removed and destroyed the old one but i concluded it probably would have lasted a lot longer. I don't believe the other lines have that same design.

Me too. Makes me doubt the condition of others I've seen, especially the U hose under the MAF.

I think this is the only 928 I own that has not had the lines upgraded. That changes this weekend.

When you get the line off you could cut the outer rubber sleeve off and find out what happened to the inner line.

Good catch btw

Had similar on my 80 twice. Found a leaking injector body on the right side, replaced that, a week later found a leaking injector hose on the left side. Replaced all hoses.
