No power to radio ignition wire
I have this '85 US 928 that no longer has power to the radio ignition wire. Recently, smoke boiled out from under the console. I tore it apart and by the time I got there the smoke quit. I do not see any signs of a fire. The head unit in the car was an old aftermarket unit, so I figured it finally gave up. I no longer think so. I checked for constant power (yellow on the head unit) and have power. I do not have power on the ignition wire with the key on. According to the wiring diagrams, the ignition power flows from the ignition switch into a interference suppression coil and then to the radio. I believe this is inside the console and could be what failed and started smoking.
Is there a way to test this? Is this part still required with newer head units or can I just bypass it?

I checked the fuses at the CE panel and radio and they were both good. I have constant power to the head unit.
I will pull off the driver side console panel and take a closer look at the suppressor.

On the radio page of your wiring diagram..Page 5, coordinate B47, is the suppressor power source, which gets power from coordinate reference A16, which on Page 3...gets power from the Ign switch pin R, which gets power from bus 30 when the key is turned Acc or Run.
Wish there was a way to isolate that more to the CE panel, if it was the suppressor, I hope it didn't melt the wiring to the Ign switch or damage the switch itself.
This happened while the car is running? Other than a frayed wire perhaps, the Ign switch or the suppressor failed.

The car still starts/runs and everything seems to be working normal with the key on (door chime, lights, etc). It it just the ignition wire to the radio that is no longer providing power. This is why I am hoping it is the suppressor that gave up. The smoke also only came from the center console, not the pod.

Might be a good idea to get eyeballs on the condition of the wiring from the Ign switch as well, the amp draw could have left you a surprise along many feet of wiring.
