86.5 - early 1987 cars, thermal lockout?

Regarding a pair of exhaust temperature sensors on ‘88 and onwards cars that shuts down half of the cylinders if the left and right hand cylinder bank temperatures differentiate too far, because of excess unburned fuel potentially catching fire in the cats. Is there some failsafe device or sensor like that (in some way) on the late ‘86.5 - early ‘87 cars? |

Nope |
It was only on 89+ cars and it would shut down half of the injectors due to half of the ignition system failing.
It can be used to help pinpoint which side has an issue, but at that point it is best to replace both items if one has failed, like the ignition drivers next to the hood latch which intermittently failed on my 89. |

And the replacement ignition coils are worse than the amplifiers.. iF you buy 2, you should buy 3, so when one fails, you will have a spare, in the car. |
^^ I wish I could have figured out which one failed, but being intermittent and never activating the safety system meant I had to replace both. I still have both amps in case a way to test them reliably shows up.
I usually hunt for NOS German made Bosch parts but ignition amps didn't show up. Caps and rotors did though. |
