Spare Tire Subwoofer Suggestions
Hi, friends. I was cleaning out my '89 today and when I was in the spare tire well, I noticed that one of the previous owners had installed and removed an 8" subwoofer speaker that was attached to the inside of the spare tire cover panel. There was a large hole drilled out and mesh top covered in fabric that allowed the speaker sound to go through.
I'm considering putting something there to replace it since the sound could use a little more bass to it. I have a Becker C220 supporting the door and rear speakers, and am looking for a relatively inexpensive way to add bass. Anyone have any suggestions based on my setup?

You can get any of the various spare tire subs you can find on amazon and ebay that will fit in a 16 inch rim.
I usually recommend going custom to get the best results, but prefab units should fit the bill like this one
CDT is a brand of audio I use in my 928s. Their products have been consistently good in my experience and they're based about 2 hours north of me in Beulton where they design and build them.

If you can find one, Hans' Sharkwoofer is an excellent design, but not being made any longer. There was.some talk about a 2nd run or Gen2 version, but I'm not sure where that stands.
I'm powering mine with 2 channels of my 6-channel amp bridged.

I forgot to mention that I do not have a spare tire, so the spare tire insert subwoofers wont work in this case.
Maybe Hans has a suggestion? I'd have to an amp integrated as well, I suspect.

One inexpensive solution I came across is this. I could attach it to the existing spare tire cover that has the 8" woofer hole in it.
Thoughts about that?

I spoke with Hans a few months ago about this. He does not have current plans to remake the sharkwoofer and he doesn't have parts. However, he said he would assist if I decided to try and make one myself. I'm still kicking around the idea.
Reach out to him maybe he would be willing to make another round, I would be interested.

Great ideas, but I want to keep this inexpensive and not remodel the interior too much. I don't need the car to be a sound stage, as for most of my driving the windows are down to ensure that the catless Xpipe with RMB is the music I want to hear. However, I do need the windows up sometimes!

hmmm.......I redid the stereo a while back with a head unit that did crossovers and used focal front and b pillar install with a small enclosed sub sitting on the right folded down back seat......all the sub I need, and the stereo rocks ( that is after I had a pro tweak it after the initial install...) hahahahahaha !!!!!!
less is more, I was never a fan of the thump of big subs.....
