Rendezvous 928 at PCNA - June 27-29, 2019

This was a truly EPIC 928 event held in one of the best venues in the USA!
The amount of pre-planning was remarkable and shown in the smoothness of flow between events. Anyone who has ever planned other 928 gatherings held around the country, could only imagine the extra layer(s) of work marrying this event with Porsche at their premier South East facility. The PEC staff were all gracious and helpful making this event even more enjoyable. For all those involved, job well done!
I was surprised by how many beautiful 928s were in attendance and walking around I noticed other special 928s there, each one their own story and marker in the 928 lineage.
I had an awesome time and as is said so often, it is the people who share this common passion that are the true stars at these types of events. It was a true pleasure to meet and talk to many who I have seen post on the 928 forum and put faces to their online persona. Also re-connecting with those from past events. I was also humbled by how much camaraderie was shown at this event, with people helping each other with 928 issues, and those who kept working behind the scenes (looking at you Scott) to take care of any issues for attendees during the event.
The presentation given by Andrew "drooman" Phinney was very enjoyable, humorous and just right in length and depth to help fill in the back story behind this truly remarkable piece of 928 history. The setting inside the PEC for this presentation, surrounded by other Porsche historic cars, made it truly special.
Can't say enough how much fun I had and to anyone who has not gone to a 928 event, make the time to do so, it will be well worth your efforts.

Sometimes sharks attack
Used the curb at PEC as a make-shift lift and was trying to use Bob's boroscope to see if the guide tube bolts had come loose again through the access hole in the bottom of the bell housing, but all we got were good views of the pressure plate.
Babied it home today with gentle acceleration to limit the load on the torque tube shaft and coupling and made it without issue. Had to take it easy though and could only run 85/90. Took a while to get back up to speed once someone pulled out in front of me

All lined up!
Here’s a video of all the 928s lined up outside Porsche NA headquarters. You can hear Carl’s beast ( shown at the end) revving in the back ground.
My 91 GT was also asked to be front and center as I was awarded “ longest drive” ~ just under 1200 miles!
Really enjoyed meeting old and making new friends. The hot laps in the current 911s were amazing! Video to follow..
Left Atlanta before 6 am this morning and sitting in Holiday Inn in Winchester, VA by 2:15.... half way home!

Hey friends, just wanted to say how much fun I had meeting may of you at the 928 Owner's Club on Saturday morning. A great, knowledgeable and friendly group of people. Just joined here and don't have a 928 but really love the car. It was my first trip to the PEC and this event was an excellent excuse to make the trip downtown.
I hope everyone had fun in my home city and that the Doraville and Autohaus events were fun!
My only hope is that Hans can do another run of the really nice T-shirts he did for the even!

Many thanks to Autohaus Social for being the hosts for our farewell get together. It was an incredibly impressive facility and they were proud to let us have a free run of the place!

Wow,
What fun it was to put faces together with all of the great people we have met through this forum. I have great respect for the knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm of this group. When everyone was leaving for the tech session I stood watching listening to the varied sights and sounds of the cars as they left. 928's truly have a visual and aural "presence" on the road...
Until we meet again somewhere down the road... Keep the shiny side up!
The return trip was uneventful and I covered the thousand miles home in 14.5 hours without the crazy gyrations of the trip down. Beyonce (XX8) took my wonderful wife out to dinner and yes, I did look wistfully back at her as we turned to go into the restaurant.
Other sights and sounds:
A virtual ocean of sharks!
Solved the puzzle of the light fixture in the PEC gallery... got underneath it and looked straight up...
Flying the colors of the fatherland... (Thanks Merlin!)
So many cars, so little time...

There's a lot to say about Rendezvous 928, but most importantly a big thank you in no particular order to:
Everyone that attended
Scott Martin RSmartin... it was his idea and he did 100% of any arrangements with PEC and about 90% of everything else.
RSmartin's wife and daughter
Porsche Experience Center and staff. Treated all of us like royalty I think, also provided parts books.
Ray Shafer, Heritage center manager. Got #1 in there to begin with and let us disrupt normal operations in a big way for over an hour.
Cheryl, my better half that keeps me on track with....everything.
Roger Tyson and crew
Carl Fausett and crew
Jarrod Wise
The shuttle driver from Kimpton.. at 6am on Saturday I had 66 packed gift bags in my room to get over to PEC by myself. He just got it done in like 10 mins.
Michelle from PEC, she is the boss and made herself at my disposal all day Saturday for all our little hiccups. Thank you Michelle.
928 GTR, solved a big last minute problem with a (significant) swipe of his credit card without a second thought. Also volunteered at every opportunity for anything.Thank you David.
928 Owners Club. They provided the coins and some gift bag stuff, but were instrumental in a lot of other important ways.
Petza914, brought his son JP who is the kindest, coolest young 928 enthusiast I've met in a long time
Everyone who scrambled to work on their car to make the trip, there were a number of you.
SeanR for making me laugh the most times, was good to meet you Sean
Hans, brought T-shirts and one of his spectacular shifters for me to fondle, what a cool product.
Audi and Leslie Ennis
Kimpton Hotel
Jack Mckinley
islaturbine
worf928
Range Rover
Bob Voskian
Mr Merlin
GeorgeM
These guys were in town early and all volunteered to help out, and did. There were others I can't think of so..
Anyone who helped out the execution of the event, Usually with about 10 seconds notice... a huge thank you!
Nash and Autohaus Social for the farewell party , the pics look great, sorry we missed that event but we had other commitments.
Howard and European Classics for the tech session

Thanks Drew. JP had a wonderful time, as did I. He said being there was Porsche heaven and he never wanted to leave. Also wants to get a job there when he gets older.
Here he is in your awesome car holding up a number 1 in Hans' event T-shirt
