may be acquiring this car... what do you think it's worth as a parts car
This is an 86 manual with a 136k on the odometer. I can get this car for basically nothing but trying to figure out if it's even worth the time. The goal would be to tear apart and use for parts for others. I don't really have much use for it but my brother in law wants a project and this could be fun to tear apart and help others.
As you can see someone tried (terribly) to add some sort of self made body kit. They cut the entire front end up and replaced with round tubing to make skeleton frame so I would imagine the car is too far gone to even attempt to bring back to life.
Here are some pics for reference. What are some of these items valued at do you think? Thanks for looking at the mess and any help is appreciated.
I see zero value. There is no doubt that there are some parts on it that may be useful, but the effort required to get them is hardly worth it. I'd much rather call Mark or Tom at 928 International, because time has value too, and this example is so far gone that even assuming the lowest of time value, you'll never make it worthwhile. Hook your BIL up with something that will incent him with a positive outcome. Not this pile of scrap.
I thought about it some more. You need to buy that car (for dirt cheap) just to get that horrible cancer off its front end. After that - give it a proper funeral.
No better way to learn about the 928 than to take one apart. Is it worth hauling away cheap, post the location and see how many hours it takes for someone to get it.
OTOH basically all the same parts tend to go bad, so the parts you need that have gone bad on your car are also bad or close to it on this one.
'85/'86 engine cores are worth $1000, if there is no water in the cylinders and they haven't had coolant sitting still in them for 10 years.
I buy any '85/'86 transmission core for $1000. More if it has a limited slip.
If the car is an '86.5, the brakes and the suspension have good value. (I can't see enough of that left front caliper to be able to tell.)
If the radio works, it's worth at least $500.
Complete clutch, torque tube, rear suspension cross member, clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder mount on firewall. (for automatic to manual conversion.) $1000.
Fuel tank, fuel cap, other pieces.
Depending on what is there (condition), there's $3500-$5000 dollars worth of stuff there.
And a whole bunch of hours of disassembly, cleaning, storing, advertising, selling, and shipping of pieces. You have to weigh if there is enough profit there to make your time worthwhile.....and if you are prepared for the incredible mess.

Hard to tell the condition of the front seats and dash etc from the photos, but it looks like they might be OK. The last time I bought a complete interior was in 2005 and I paid $1525 on ebay plus $300 shipping from GA to CA. That was all four seats, dash, door panels, carpets, and rear quarter covers. I thought then and think now that it was a smokin' deal , probably worth 2x that then and much more now. That dash had one small crack, while this one looks like it has one large crack at least. Still very usable as 928 dashes go for the right price. The color looks like it is a chocolate brown, which is too bad since there is a really beautiful mahagonay brown and a beautiful cork brown and it is neither of those wonderful colors. I would think it would wash up and be worth $3K at least.
Looks like engine fire in the front, no idea if that effects the block. The bit of the rear wheel showing looks interesting. Last smog was 1999 so maybe parked close to 20 years.
