Diagnosing a non-running car...

As Doc has mentioned frequently regarding these steps here during my education on non-running cars, I just saw this on the OT thread and felt this is important to me and other tree shade mechanics who are intimidated on non-running 928! One thing I don't think he mentioned that should be important; change the gas after 4 years!

Amazing how much easier it is working on Japanese 16V cars. Everything is easily accessible.

Hope this helps you as much as it helped me:

I'm subscribed to that guy's channel. He's good: Plain spoken and easy to follow. The videos are well shot and you can clearly see what he's doing.

.....................the 928 is not a joy riding car; it's a tool, a road weapon designed to destroy distance and crush time."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES
I wish the forum had a love button,as this is so true.

In the video he implies the cam shaft is essentially a full 180 degrees out of time (by saying that he set the crank to TDC compression). This doesn't really portray the actually situation very accurately, since the cam rotates at half crank speed, he was really at TDC exhaust stroke. It you look at the red mark on the cam gear (I believe it is supposed to line up with the head surface), The cam is 1 or 2 teeth off.

My question was how did he get those compression numbers with a cam so far "out of time"? I thing the video was staged. Look at that nice new timing belt and all the parts that were to have been replaced looked like new parts to me, with the old ones still on the car. But the troubleshooting was fine and that was supposed to be the point of the video.
