so, I found a guy...
Lili as a project car, has been a solo endeavor; I teach Literature for a living and most of my colleagues don't much fancy getting their hands dirty. She is my fourth project car, following a run of Triumphs: Spitfire, GT6 MK II, GT6 MK III, between 1980 and a few years ago when I bought Lili. I enjoy the solo work, the more immediate gratification the cars offer compared to my professional work make the time on task worth the effort both because of the new knowledge and the satisfaction when a job comes off properly. But there are other times when an extra set of hands or a critical eye at a moment of decision would be much welcomed. Silently, I had been hoping to find someone to assist from time to time, I moved my family from town to out of town to an older farmhouse closer to the Nanticoke River and now Lili has her own garage bay. shifting from under-car projects to interior work. I have a Blaupunkt system purchased for the car and decided to install my own speaker box in the rear in lieu of door and rear quarter speakers. Usually when I go to local auto parts stores and other suppliers, I am roundly disappointed by how little assistance I can count on from these stores. Looking for speaker box fabric and electrical connectors, a store called Exotic Sound and Tint had not disappointed in disappointing on both of these asks. When I brought the radio unit in to be tested, I expected to once again walk out of the store frustrated but instead a young man named Kerry said, "let me see it", coming back later to report that it worked fine. I described my speaker box project to him, and later he offered to come over to my house, since he lives in the same town. Fast forward to yesterday, Kerry came over with a modified speaker box, and plans to recover my dash and instrument pod, as well as the rear interior panels I recovered about a year ago. Proper interior vinyl, and professional stereo installation. It will take a while, moving a car I had hoped to put on the road this spring to one that might get there by late summer, but it looks like the wait will be worth it. This young man looked at my attempt to replace the interior center console trim piece and suggested that he could do something in plastic. I mentioned the work that Nate and others on this site are working on in this area, and he seemed to think that he could do something comparable in plastic or composite at his shop. Center console trim piece, dash, pod and interior quarters recovered; stereo, amp and speaker professionally installed. cool.
