Hershey April 20, 2019

PCA Hershey is Saturday April 20. After the debacle (for some unlucky patrons) last year at the Hohumway Inn, I would like to have brief poll (7 days).
White Rose is under new management and able to process reservations this year. I have not checked with either of the choices re availability. Price quoted is what I found on line (hotels.com and tripadvisor) today. I believe White Rose has more rooms; Red Roof is walking distance to Dukes. I like the convenience of walking to Dukes. If someone has stayed at the Red Roof, please give rating for us.

White Rose, 717:533-9876, 1060 East Chocolate Ave. $65/night,
Red Roof Inn, 717-533-1234, 1806 E. Chocolate Avenue. $55/night.
Other: If you vote Other, hopefully you can post a suggestion re "Who"

linderpat 02-01-2019 05:05 PM

Steve - I met the new owner of the White Rose last fall when I was in Hershey for the Mecum auction. He seems like a really good guy, and it is still a family operation. The place looked like it always does, nice and clean, and put together. He'd love to have us and would give us a group rate. If you'd like, I can reach out and see what he'll do for us. This has been on my radar, but got buried during the holidays. Thanks for dusting this topic off...

SteveG 02-01-2019 08:46 PM

Ed: Please do.

WyattsRide 02-04-2019 03:26 PM

I'm in for where ever everyone decides! I like White Rose but the Red Roof across from Dukes Restaurant and Bar is great too!

April 20th is the Swap meet. Come in on Friday the 19th and leave for home on Sunday the 21st?

Hymodyne 02-04-2019 04:07 PM

Jane and I will be coming. With the new planned work on Lili's interior, we won't be bringing her this year.

James

linderpat 02-04-2019 04:44 PM

OK, I just spoke with the new WR owner - Bob. First off, not sure where you got the $65/night Steve, but a double at WR is $105 + tax. He is willing to give us a group rate, for 15 double bed rooms, at $89.95/night + tax. The King rooms are currently $95/night + tax. If we want a couple of those I'm sure we can get a discount there too, as part of the 15 room block.
So what do folks think? I'll need to confirm fairly soon.

SteveG 02-04-2019 08:28 PM

Ed: Sat both tripadvisor and hotels.com showed $65; Now both show WR and RRI at $95. Another reason to book direct, I think. I set the poll to run 1 week. But it is no big deal.

Rick: I expect to do the usual, i.e., book Friday and Sat and leave early Sunday.

BauerR 02-05-2019 08:52 AM

I'm going but staying at the Hotel Hershey

Eplebnista 02-05-2019 11:45 AM

White Rose sounds good to me.

linderpat 02-05-2019 11:53 AM

I'll go ahead and get the group set for it then. I'll post up here after I've done so (hopefully later today - damn - I hate work sometimes!)

Group rate set for the White Rose. The group name is "the Porsche Group". The group rate is $89.95/night + tax, for a double bed (no kings left he told me). We have a block of 15 for Friday night, and 8 for Saturday night (it can be more - just let the hotel know if you want to stay that second night at the group rate - he'll honor it).

Number is 717-533-9876.

abrescia 02-08-2019 05:22 PM

Booked! Thanks guys

WyattsRide 02-08-2019 06:11 PM

I'm in for the 19th and 20th.

GeorgeM 02-08-2019 06:36 PM

Booked. Thx for arranging, Ed!

SteveG 02-08-2019 07:53 PM

Ed

"the Porsche Group".
"The Porsche Group"?? With that description, any 'ol Porsche can get the rate, and join us. . . . . OHHHHHHHH, YOU want them, any of them, to get the rate, because YOU ARE ONE OF THEM. Guys, first it's just one, then there will be two, and then they will take over and drive us out of the White Rose.

Just having a little fun. Sorry Ed. Of course we want to include you. You were one of us. ONCE. Now. . . . you are still welcome. You know way too much about the early cars. Truth is, I might skip a thread about an OB question, unless I see your handle in the responders.

BUT NO MUSTANGS get the "Porsche Group" rate.

OK guys I just booked - Friday only. Bob (owner) told me he has 6 rooms left for Friday, and a few still for Saturday night. Book soon!

Hacker - can we make this a sticky?

SteveG 02-12-2019 05:44 PM

I asked about 3 days ago. He must be busy in OT.

Shawn Stanford 02-13-2019 11:04 AM

I'm in. I'm pretty sure Trin will be as well. No telling what I'll be driving, but it will at least be a Porsche.

BTW: The 19th is my birthday. If you guys wanted to get me something, pretty much anything in the corral will do.

Rick - we'll be caravanning up again this year, join me and that other Rick, probably Bill and Adam, and who knows who else. Will be a fun spirited drive depending on weather. Let's see how your shark goes without that supercharger!

The PCNA gathering is now scheduled for the next weekend. Not sure who else that might affect, but I can't do both, so I'd opt for Atlanta.

That's be my choice too George, if I was closer like you are. Take and post lots of pictures, and we'll do the same.

PS - for all you others out there, now is your chance for a Trophy, as George has removed his champion shark from the playing field:icon107::icon501::cheers:

drooman 02-17-2019 01:56 PM

Not sure if this is the place for this but... can we have a parts delivery discussion here? Great way to swap big bits that are a pain to ship. I'm looking for early 951 rear phone dials 16x8 ET 23.3

SteveG 02-20-2019 12:33 AM

Parts FS

I have a GTS radiator (original). Bought a new one as required for Gregg Brown's oil lines, so it had no leaks, flushed it and it is sitting in my basement. About 75K on it. $250 asking.

Center cassett box. I replaced it with Champaign box, so this is surplus. It has some wear, also about 75K miles on it. $100.00.

Christopher Zach 02-20-2019 09:17 PM

It's only an hour drive for me, so I think I'll drive up. Not sure if I'll take the newly painted 944S, the 928S, or go up with my dad in his 68 911L.

Regardless hope to see people there. Last time I went to Hershey I brought home a 911 in about 50 boxes....

SteveG 03-11-2019 02:14 PM

Red Binders FS $100

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...fe02b4fc06.jpg
These are not collectible; they are xerox copies with some hand written notes by the original offender, hence the price. He also taped the label to the spine of each Vol upside down. Otherwise I believe they are complete for the date of issue. The "Printed on [date]" at bottom of page varies from "1979" to "1988." There are 6 binders as pictured, I'm happy to provide specific pics if you have specific questions.. I understand there are 9 Vol sets available. Porsche was inconsistent and I don't know if there are "official" issue dates or sets; These are still loaded with information and proper documentation, most useful for early MY.

Christopher Zach 03-11-2019 11:15 PM

Hm. If they have the oddities of an 86.5 I'd be interested even though I have the PDF copy. Bring em'.

If anybody wants to caravan with our WPa group, we are leaving the Sheetz parking lot on Rt 8 right next to the PA turnpike at 11:30 am Friday. Always a fun cruise up!

Any tips from the journeymen to an event newbie? I'm coming in Friday morning with my wife and 10 yr. old daughter (who fits nicely in the back). We are going to Hershey Park Friday and are going to the Swap Meet Saturday (at least I am). Do the 928 folks meet up? Park together? Etc. All insights appreciated!

Most of us are staying at the White Rose Motel and coming in on Friday also. If you're not staying there, then stop over in the evening. We'll be out in the parking lot (as long as the weather is not too bad.) On Saturday you can either park in the General Porsche Parking area (some 928s park there) or most of us park in the Concourse area (extra $10). Be prepared for any and all types of weather. Bring cigars and adult beverages for the Motel parking lot. (it's mandatory) Some of us are staying Saturday night also.

SteveG 04-09-2019 11:57 AM

Geza/anyone: if you don't find us Friday eve (White Rose Mgt. has been very tolerant of us congregating in the parking lot), come early Sat. as there are a lot of cars to see, about 15 of us and a ton of those "other" cars, plus all the vendors and funnel cakes. We show around 8, and they announce the concourse winners (unite against the 968 !) at noon and the vendors pack up soon after that. We will probably eat Dukes a few blocks east of W.Rose on E. Choc. Ave. Friday and/or Sat. Dukes is family friendly.

FREAKINHEAT 04-10-2019 12:20 AM

Is there usually any 928 parts available at the swap meet. I’m looking for a black rear bumper for an s4.

There have been 928 parts to be found at the swap meet. But, they are usually few and far between. Finding a black rear S4 bumper there, may be harder than finding a dull spot on Otto's shiny head.

SteveG 04-10-2019 11:15 AM

One never knows what or who will show up. It's a lot like a garage sale on a 10 acre lot. Not everybody is a member much less watches RL. There are usually one or two sharks FS in the corral that are not known to us.

Mrmerlin 04-10-2019 08:01 PM

I have a good condition rear PU cover,
it will need to be stripped and repainted Walnut blasting is best,
and possibly set in the sun for a week or so to reform the shape ,
color is slate gray, 275.00 I will bring it if you want to buy it .
otherwise its staying in philly

Christopher Zach 04-11-2019 04:14 PM

Speaking of stuff, I really need a driver's side seat. Blue interior, 86.5, no rips and good condition. Anyone have one they want to toss in their car and drive down to Hershey?

FREAKINHEAT 04-12-2019 11:04 PM

Can’t make it to Hershey. Thank you mrmerlin

linderpat 04-14-2019 02:28 PM

Dammit, no Blumaxx this year (again). My issue concerning idling and the car dying has re-emerged. New thread imminent. I really need to solve this:banghead:

I'll be in the 911:icon107:

SteveG 04-14-2019 06:07 PM

R-12, Freon

I have two 12 oz cans of dichlorodifloromethane and a small can (3 oz?) of compressor oil for same. Ebay price seems to be $25-30 / 12 oz can. $50 for the three items. The R12 cans are with the convex top; you need a dispensing tool that punctures the top.

That sucks. I was waiting for a visit from Blumaxx all day yesterday. See you Friday.

Shawn Stanford 04-15-2019 09:03 AM

Looks very much like we'll be in Trinity's Boxster this year. My 928 is still on three legs and my buddy's car (the Garnet Red '85 I had at Frenzy) needs a TB tensioner rebuild.

But, I'll see you Friday at the White Rose. We'll probably be there around 4:30pm.

GeorgeM 04-15-2019 08:43 PM

I have to bag out. Will miss you guys, but will make it to the PCNA gig in a few months.

I just cnxed my room at the WR, so if anyone needs one, it should be available.

linderpat 04-16-2019 08:19 AM

Will miss you George! That open's up the concours field to others:icon107:

GeorgeM 04-16-2019 09:40 AM

You're too kind, Ed. Hope the weather holds out for you guys.

On another note, I just got word of a joint PCA Zone 1 and 2 Boardwalk Reunion in Ocean City, NJ on 19 Oct. Would be great to see some Sharks invade that event. They have room for 400 cars on the boardwalk. Host hotel is the Flanders.

Shawn Stanford 04-17-2019 08:59 PM

The weather looks like crap. I'm probably going to come down in the Cayenne.

Does anyone need a set of nice staggered faux classic Fuchs with a brand new set of tires? There are only three metal center caps, though.

JBeauS4 04-18-2019 12:11 AM

Still worth going despite the crappy weather? I have never been to this show and have a 7 hour drive ahead of me on Friday. Thanks

Christopher Zach 04-18-2019 12:35 AM

Crappy Friday but light showers on Sat morning. Are 928's good in the rain?

(Have my new seals, no leaks anymore....)

Shawn Stanford 04-18-2019 04:20 AM

Hanging out is half the fun, so no, the rain doesn't ruin it. Bring an umbrella and a change of socks.

Well, she's always clean when I start; it just gets a bit messy during the sojourn, can't keep my hands off her; I will take a pass on the Saturday AM wash, if there is rain in the forecast, if only b/c last year the car wash machine gypped me out of about $3.00 and I got into a long discourse with the maint. guy about how the boss is a dick and keeps asking him to do stuff w/o any increase in pay.

See ya, tomorrow.

They aren't marked for offset, but if my measurements and math are correct, here:
  • size: 15x8.5, tires: 225/50r15, backset: 5" = 3.5" offset = 90mm
  • size: 15x7, tires: 205/55r15, backset: 5" = 2" offset = 50mm

Ours is meeting in New Market, then driving over. Either way I think dad will leave the 68 911L at home and we'll just go in the S: The 911 is after all made of sugar.

We'll be out rain or shine. Stop over.

We will be there and looking for donations of Porsche memorabilia to use in the silent auction in September. (not random car parts) Learn more about our charity partner: https://erinlevitas.org/

How are we going to find each other there? It's kind of a big place....

Look for the Sharks parked in the concours, that will be us. Entering your car in the concours only costs a little more than just parking it in the lot, and it's easier to find when you're ready to leave!

jwbeck17 04-19-2019 03:27 PM

Sorry to not be there this time, guys, however wingman89 (my girlfriend Gabby) and I are down in St. Michaels for some time off. We took the 928 of course. ;)

It’s like someone wants to do a mini Porsche cars and coffee at the hotel.

Shawn Stanford 04-19-2019 07:03 PM

Trin and I had a delay. We'll be there around 7:45 or 8pm.

FREAKINHEAT 04-20-2019 02:31 PM

Do they typically have 928 items for sale?

Bertrand Daoust 04-21-2019 08:57 AM

Come on guys, time get up and post some pictures for us who can't be there! :corn:

Hope you all had a lot of fun.
Have a safe trip back home.

Congrats brother for your People Choice award.
Well deserved.

This thing was amazing. The tub was metal, it had Arizona plates and stone nicks on the nose.

Not this year: I did find a set of wrenches that fit the tool carrier, but that was about it. Mostly it's 944 and 911 stuff with the usual classic hard to find stuff. There was a lot of 914 stuff as well, endless tail lenses for some reason.

Overall a good time. Got to see a few Rennlisters and parked my car in the 928 concours section. On the way home topped 140 traveling with a 991 Carrera S. The 928 is an excellent cruiser.v

I didn't take many pictures. Sorry so large.

Weather turned out great! Rained Friday evening. But, that didn't stop us from hanging out until late at night. Mostly dry and warm on Saturday. Sun came out after 1pm. We had a really fun Saturday evening. Great seeing everyone again and meeting some new guys.

linderpat 04-21-2019 05:13 PM

Congrats to Rick on the 1st place in class, and Otto for 3d. A sweet 968 was in the middle. Great job guys, way to represent:thumbup::cheers:

Ha Thom - so it does indeed exist! We figured it somewhere near Philly since we never saw it, even driving all the way to the car wash, especially when Pete said it "was just up the road" from the motel:roflmao:

Looks like you had nice weather. Sorry I missed it this year.

That cayman rap is quite cool. It shifts color in the light.

Sorry I missed it. Hope to see some of the crew in ATL in a couple of months.

Anthony: Saw your car, very unique; I took come details, here is one. The other is a last minute shot as people were packing up. Sorry I cut Geza's car and most of Rick's '84 out.

928 for sale at Hershey

Anybody know anything about this 928 for sale at Hershey? It's an 85 5-speed with 31,xxx miles. Looked super clean...

I think Ed spent some time talking to the seller. If I got the story straight: It was owned by a doctor who put the miles on it in the first ten or so years after purchase. Then his health failed and it was parked for many years. The seller got it from his estate and did a mild cleaning and refresh (I heard him say something about new injectors and a mild cleaning of the motor). The ask was almost $30k. It's a beautiful car, and the interior is a color I've never seen before. Sort of a gray-green.

Christopher Zach 04-22-2019 08:26 PM

Nice car. Same color as mine, better interior than mine, now I'm thinking about how to remove the side door pinstripes/guards/whatever without damaging the paint. One is missing, clean that and the door up and it might look as good :-)

WyattsRide 04-22-2019 08:51 PM

I looked over this car and talked to the owner for a long time. This is a time capsule car that to me is well worth what he was asking. Everything was in excellent condition. But, could have been cleaned up a little more. especially the engine. A good detail and this car would be perfect. Low miles but not too low, that you shouldn't drive it. Very unusual color combination. The Gray-Green is pretty rare. I love that color! Exterior color was special order for that year. Not sure about that though.

I don't think he did the fuel lines. That's important. He did all the other important maintenance items. He started it up and it sounded beautiful. Very smooth idle.

Cool old original Blaupunkt Monterey SQR 23 radio and equalizer. Don't know if they work or not.

Needs a new headliner and the air filter reversed (after buying a new one)

Wheels were in excellent shape and had the wheel locks.

8" H4 headlights.. I think

I would buy this car in a second, if I had the money.

I talked to him a bunch and got a test drive. The temp and fuel gauges are inop with a red warning illuminated below those gauges, that cool radio doesn't work, he says the sunroof needs attention, but the car drove well and the AC even appears to work. I missed any issues with the headliner...what was wrong there? Overall I thought it was a super honest car that just needs a few repairs and some miles put on her to bring her back to life. I thought the ask was fair...

I meant engine Hood pad.

linderpat 04-23-2019 08:26 AM

I concur with everything Rick said. It is a great looking car with a lot of the hard/expensive stuff now done. The owner is an American Muscle guy, which is why he does not drive it and is selling it. I think it is fairly priced, but I'd try to get him down a little bit, based on the cluster work needed and the few other things. Start at $25K and go form there, meeting somewhere in between. It is a pretty special looking car.

SteveG 04-23-2019 10:47 AM

Very clean, he said it sat for 20? years, in a heated environment. I would be concerned about the head gaskets as I think that means the coolant was not changed. It was changed recently when he acquired it and did the other work.

767driver 04-23-2019 06:11 PM

I ended up giving him a deposit...I am supposed to collect it this Thursday. Wish me luck...

Way to go 767! I think you did the right thing. I hope we'll see it again at Hershey or bring it to Frenzy.

Outstanding. You're getting a sweet 928. Good luck with it and post up your experience once you get it.
