clockspring

looking for a clock spring for my '94 928 gts

Rob Edwards 01-29-2019 05:33 PM

A clock spring as in a spring inside the clock? The US market clocks have quartz movements, no springs in there. If you have a GTS with the rootwood console you may have the analog clock which is actually a 924 part, but it too has a quartz movement. Tell us more about the specifics of your car. And welcome!

I think he isreferring to the clock spring beneath the steering wheel.

Have you tried contacting our 928 specific vendors for a new one?

Spring

That won't fit in any 928 clock that I'm aware of.

I believe the 968’s clockspring works also

Interesting. What is a horn reset? There is a relationship between the horn and steering wheel position?

He said 'indicator reset".

What I've always heard called a "turn signal cancel".

And for the OP:

Don't mind Rob. His OCD comes out kind of strange at times.

It can be pretty severe, but it has the advantage that he knows just about every part on the car. And has a pic of it, too.

Rob Edwards 01-30-2019 03:35 PM

It also manifests as attempted humor that doesn't come across as such. Perhaps I need to invest in some emoticons. :)

Wisconsin Joe 01-30-2019 03:41 PM

I knew you were making a joke.

That was my point.

It was kinda funny.
But obscure enough that some probably didn't.

Especially a new guy who is asking a serious question.

Hey, OP...

Welcome. You've found what is probably the best, most knowledgeable and friendliest place for these cars.

Tell us more about your car, please.

Post some pics too.

He actually wrote "horn & indicator reset". I read that as "horn reset"and "indicator reset". Two separate resets. But maybe by "horn" he is referring to the audible turn signal sound and not THE horn.

Ok, this shows how perceptions can vary.

I read it as "Horn" (One item) & "Indicator Reset" (2nd item).

I think (not totally sure because I don't have one of these) that the brass ring on the lower pic is the horn contact and the little white protrusion on the other side (between the 2 stickers in the upper pic) is the 'finger' that hits the turn signal cancel on the multi switch.

These are done with the piece that attaches to the bottom of the steering wheel hub on non-airbag cars. PET calls it a "Slip Ring" 928 347 028 00

Ha! You are right. Totally different perceptions, but yours is definitely the correct one on this. I agree. That brass ring is the horn contact.

OP ever get his answer?

beran earms 01-30-2019 10:37 PM

What are we talking about?

Rob Edwards 01-30-2019 11:04 PM

A 928 parts purveyor posted a picture of the part in post # 6. I presume that was prima facie a portent to the OP that the part could be purchased.

Wisconsin Joe 01-30-2019 11:11 PM

Possibly. Or perhaps it was a promotional photo, prompted by the posters ponderings on the potential parts proposition.

Clockspring

WOW!!! Quite a site! Thanks to everyone helping a novice on this. I did source a clockspring through 928 International and I should have it within 5 days. Unfortunately I have another question - after driving for a few minutes after start up the idling when stopped at a light wants to surge or pulsate until the rpms drop to a stall. I'm having to keep my foot on the accelerator and brake at the same time to move when a light changes. We've checked for any vacuum issues and all seem OK. It's actually a bit dangerous as I've had a stall out in the middle of a left turn in traffic.

Any thoughts? Thanks again to everyone for weighing in on the clockspring issue
