Removing fuel lines - what’s the trick?
 

I am trying to remove the flex fuel lines from firewall to engine on my ‘83. The connections are brutally tight. I’ve PB blasted.

I have still managed to loosen the easily accessible fittings with open ended wrenches (3/4” strangely).

But how in the world to get at the two connections (feed and return) below the cam tower? Wondering if I need some crow wrenches? There’s very little space and they are on so tight 😭

BTDT, real PITA, which I bypassed . Its been a while now, so a bit rusty on the details. I managed to damage the pressure line where it went from the accumulator down and under the body to the floor clips, and had to replace it. I separated the line as it went over the cam cover, and eventually got the whole line out. Could not separate the return line firewall joint for love or money - poor access due to not having a hoist. With the front hose fitted I could not find a way to get the while into place. In the end I cut the pressure line ~ 12-18" back from the firewall, assembled the front end to the hose on the bench, then to the engine, then joined the two parts with a compression joiner from Pirtek. No issues in many years. While I was there I sheathed the hoses with Firesleeve to reduce the chance of leaks spraying on the exhaust. I got a new pressure hose, but the return line was NLA. Despite spending 10+ years in Saudi, there were no visible cracks in either hose.
Crow- foot wrenches are probably your only hope, and getting it on a hoist will improve your access. I have found with undoing one nut against another that the best leverage is obtained by arranging the wrenches so that you are pushing the ends together to loosen, and then brace one wrench against something solid and stable - body or engine.
