Car wont start

This is probably going to sound very stupid....
i just replaced the distributor in my 1980 928 us and i am very confused because i have spark and i have poured gas down the intake to make sure i was getting fuel. I think i may have set TDC to the exhaust stroke. My car is also not firing at all just turning over.

Dylan,

When you replaced your distributor was the harmonic balancer set at TDC?

The engine requires compression, fuel and spark to run. If any of the three are missing, the engine will not run. If any of the three are not present at the correct time, the engine will not run.
Your engine had compression and fuel previously and I'm guessing that you replaced the green wire with the one sent to you, correct? So you should have spark, maybe just at the wrong time. Move the engine to TDC and re-replace the distributor correctly and it should fire.

Good Luck.

Not sure about my harmonic balancer. I read some places that if you put your finger on the plug hole you can feel the compression and then keep going to TDC. I will try that when i can. Its supposed to be about -30 tomorrow with 45 mph winds so i might wait on that....
thanks for the quick response btw!:bigbye:

set the engine to TDC verify #1 is up then remove the distributor cap verify that the rotor tip is centered and pointing to the hash mark on the distributor body.
Depending on how much fuel you have poured into the intake it could be wise to remove the spark plugs and crank the engine a few times to clear it of fuel .

NOTE make sure the green wire is disconnected so the ignition system wont add a spark,
NOTE dont ground the coil wire you can damage the ignition system
