You just have to search for the humor in all this after awhile...
PS: Like a particualrly good wine and cheese pairing, I just can't avoid complimenting you on your choice of the manual 944S and the auto 928 . Reminds me of that scene towards the end of Real Genius; "Let me take this opportunity to compliment you on your fashion sense." (Val Kilmer addressing the Cal Tech Dean of Students on his fuzzy bunny slippers).

Meantime I got my cable chains in the mail today, and will put them in the back of the car. Looks like snow this weekend, but I'll be traveling by plane so not a problem :-)
Thanks all for the thoughts and comments!

[QUOTE=Speedtoys;15564193]When you stat buying us SUVs, you can tell us it's the wrong car.
Its a car, it can manage most normal conditions with the proper preparation.
I paid 800 for a raggy full sized blazer, plus 700 for cooper serious tires. Unstoppable. I live in same area as Christopher. 928 doesn't belong out on these streets in this level of traffic on snow. Period. Rest is fun talk.

Means just cause you can drive it doesn't mean you should. Rural Iowa is one thing, nova is a different game. Idiocy to have a 928 on road in nova in snow. You can snarl 10, 000 commuters even when you are still (barely) moving. Stupidest question I've heard in a long time, chains for a 928 in nova.

BTW, a good friend of mine lives outside Boise ID up on top of a mountain in a subdivision that has dirt roads. In the winter he drives a 95'ish Ford Bronco (the big one) and his trick is to keep it in neutral all the way down the mountain for the reason you describe. Probably harder to do on a flat road though.

It's just planning Speed, which is reasonable. Like I said, I put the car away in September and take it back out in May or June where I'm from.
One year I didn't plan well, it was October of 2006 as I recall. I left my tractor down in the front pasture and hadn't put the snow blower on it; didn't read the weather right and thought "October? Not a big risk". A monster storm hit and dropped 4 feet of snow on the ranch right about October 10th. The tractor didn't get out until spring. Bad planning.
I had a set of chains for the tractor, a John Deere 4630. They didn't help at all.
Mr. Natural says "Use the Right Tool for the Job".
PS: It was a 9 foot Schulte blower just for the record . What you might call a "big a** blower", but unless you plan right, it doesn't do you any good at all. Reasonable.
PPS: Where abouts in Boulder Creek are you? I've lived there for 35 years off an on but I haven't seen many 928's. Mine's still in Big Basin while I move my shop to Paso. Maybe we should get together sometime? I have a lift... .
Regards,
