Is there any reason a Y would be better than a T?

Any farm supply store, with there sprayer fittings, has nylon T’s. I bought one the had one leg (or two, can’t remember) smaller than the others. Don’t remember the size and i’m Not tearing into the fender well to take a pix.
No reason a y would be preferable to a t in this low pressure low flow situation.

I looked at RV and marine supply store options when I replaced mine. None had the correct sizes for all three legs. I wasn't sane in the moment, so wandered over to the local dealer and ordered a new factory piece for about $6 at the time.

I see folks who have managed to adapt nylon RV/Marine water system parts to the duty. Meanwhile, the factory part fits perfectly, is inexpensive and readily available. Why would someone cobble a piece when the right one is a click or call away.

The way the tank vent hoses line up in the wheel well makes a Y a more natural fit. What would be useful is to modify the model to put a ~30° bend in the 'bottom' of the Y on the orthogonal axis. The hoses from the engine bay are at a right-angle to the hose to the canister. It's the bending force needed to 'bend' those bay hoses to meet the canister hose that stresses the plastic piece. Redesigning the part is/was on my todo list. I went so far as to take some detailed measurements of the OEM part but didn't make the time to do a 3d model.

Yeah. The barbs serve, it seems, mostly to make it a PITA to get all of the broken plastic y-fitting out of the hoses.

find a plumbing supply place and ask for one of these, if the "T" angle is workable instead of the 30 degrees shown on that shop drawing.
clamp with (available at that same store) PEX oetiker clamps.
