Phase I / High Perf. Exhaust Coating / Before and After / Supplier suggestion

As a part of the Phase I restoration of 9288001117 I took the stock exhaust apart. A tip of chapeau to Rob Edwards who saved a set of N.O.S. 1978 only down pipes and early catalytic converter. The car came with the newish center muffler and rear resonator, complete with the Porsche sticker mfg in 1993.

At dissassembly, I was stunned at the part count -116 pieces in an early 928 exhaust system.

All of the hardware shown is out for plating.

This post is about very high performance exhaust coatings. I've tried many, many coatings all claiming things like "1600 Degree' performance. Most of these claims are rubbish. The only coating that really, really works (does not fade or turn fleshy pink) is the proprietary process from Embee in Santa Ana, CA. They developed a flat grey coating for the early vintage Porsche restorers and it takes all the heat and does not discolor, flake or chip. Like all legit processes, its not Pep Boys cheep. Plan on about $30-$40 per linear foot.
