I was - gobsmacked. Towed home, survived another day.

That was a dentist here local and he brought it to OCIC '09. That was the only belt I've ever seen that you could see through, the rubber had deteriorated and was held together by the internals. Saw that and immediately found Mark A to see if he'd ever seen such a thing. None of us had. He towed it out of the convention center and I did the belt that following week. I saved that belt but can't find it anywhere now.

I'm over 60 now. My vision, and hand/eye coordination aren't what they used to be in the 70s/80s. It's a 65YO plane, with ONE 65YO engine, and ONE 65YO prop. There's no provision for ice, and aside from a heated pitot, not prepped for precip in clouds. I fly from 60-120 hours per year, and I haven't shot a prec approach in > 5 years. I have NO BUSINESS being in IMC. So, even if I equip the plane, and get my currency back, I would still be a huge liability to myself, and others messing with that. No thanks.

OK, it's a driver. We took a short trip to get gas today, and no parts fell off. All gears work, brakes, radio, heater, etc. The tires are hard as rocks. We kept it under 120.

Freed up the coolant level sensor from the bottom of the coolant reservoir. No more coolant level warnings.

Removed the fuel level sensor from the tank. It was unbelievably gunked up. Took it apart and cleaned it well. I temporarily reinstalled it (need a new seal on order from Roger)and will permanently install it upon receipt of the new seal.
Anyway, the range warnings and the fuel level warnings are now corrected.

Installed the new to me Headlight relay. the headlights now pop up and illuminate.
All lights are now functional. The driver's side rear marker light would not illuminate and the bulb was bad. I replaced the bulb, but the light still did not illuminate. I used my mediocre electrical diagnostic skills to determine that the problem was the individual harness plug not making contact.
I repaired that connector and all the lights will work now.

It's gonna need motor mounts. Engine starts right up and runs well, but the amount of vibration from the engine sitting on the cross member is loud and immense.

Stan,
Have you heard any feedback on the trans mounts that someone on RL (I'm sorry but I forgot who it was but it seems as though it was a regular poster)was rebuilding with poured poly?

I had the belt break on my ‘82. Cruising 70mph on highway, all was good then dashlights up and no power. Mechanic had previously inspected belt and said it looked Iike new. Loose end of belt whipped around so violently it smashed the timing belt covers and wrapped itself so tightly around the crank pulley it had to be cut off in pieces.

Kiwiokie,
Was this possibly posted in the wrong thread? Or was this post just a late response to the earlier discussion?

BTW, I just received my Guardian water pump from Ed last week. It's on my list of things to do. Just not right now.

He'll get the right bits for this. It's all on John now. I've turned the car over to him, as I have too many projects now, and not a fan of black cars. If I kept it, would have re-painted to cassisrot, and no one liked that idea. I will go help out once in a while. It's good to see it back in service. Another save.

No worries. Thanks for your insight.
I had an alternator belt break and take out the other belts and wrap themselves around my harmonic balancer so tightly that I had to cut all but the alternator belt off. I had just bought the alternator belt at a local car parts store and I went back with the torn up belt to buy another. The clerk asked what happened and offered a warranty replacement. I took him up on the offer.

Got a box of goodies Saturday morning from Roger.
Replaced the seal on the fuel level sensor and resealed that.
Replaced the broken hood/bonnet release lever mechanism inside the driver footwell area.
Replaced the remote hatch release switch inserts (that took 2 minutes)
I was going to replace both window wedges which are missing from this car, but the ******** before me replaced the tiny machine threaded phillips bolts with tiny phillips screws. Dammit!
Reinstalled the drivers side parcel shelf.

I drove the crap out of the GTS to Dallas and back to see Grandkids and help out with grandsons' baseball drills. Good times at high speeds.

The best thing I did though, was finish up the installation of the home link and auto dim mirror in Rhonda's car. She will be real happy with that and I can reclaim a garage door remote.

On the agenda for this week is to go get the GTS Cup IIs that are in storage with good tires. I'll install them on the GT to get it inspected and then get it registered and drive it a bit. Tires on the D90s are in the plans but aren't in the budget just now.
Maybe drive it to the Monthly breakfast on Saturday morning.

As I linked this in another thread, I thought I would bring this up to date. Was out at John's house a bit ago, and we went over the car. Lot of the small detail items taken care of. The brake lines were swapped out a while back, and new flush. Some electrical gremlins have been taken care of, and I think the only remaining system needing service is the AC. Maybe he'll come by later and give a better update for what's next.
