Sometimes I hate myself. But - I get over it quickly.

I found out last night one of the other 928 folk here in DFW had heard about the car > 6 months ago, but he blew it off.

You'll appreciate this. The holy grail was not the best score I made last week. On Wed I bought this; https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search...-type=aircraft. Pristine cond, fully restored. 165kts on 12GPH. Panel GPS, A/P coupled, butter soft leather int, new paint, windows, tires, 165-SMOH.

Is that the dove-tail doctor killer? In flesh and blood?

Start a new thread. Describe your symptoms carefully. Do you hear/feel a 'thunk' when the switch on the seat is pressed? Carry on in a separate thread pls.

You should see the Bonanza in person. Like a 50's time capsule.

Flat spin baby, yeah! (sung the tune of love shack). Nice, but watch your butt! Kinda like an early 930 that way.

The early Bo is a ***** cat unless one gets pointed down at WOT. I've got lots of hours on them.

We were all thinking it.

Personally, there's been enough mis-interpreted 'snark' on here in the last couple of weeks.

I was pondering posting something along the lines of 'I hate you", but chose to exercise restraint.

Holy Shmolies!! That is fantastic.

Can I ask what you paid for it? I understand if you don't want to say.

I know GA is in serious decline and there are a lot of wonderful planes out there for not a lot of money.
Even more so if you want the kind with a "spare motor". Insurance on those is not cheap, and the insurance companies are pretty strict on minimum hours to cover one.

That's 'Fork Tailed Doctor Killer'.
It's not totally undeserved, but it's more of an indictment of the pilot than the plane. IIRC, the Malibu developed the name "plastic surgeon killer", partly because you had to make that kind of money to be able to afford to be killed in one.

The early Bonanza is a very cool plane. It was one of the first truly high performance, complex planes available to the 'average' GA pilot.

It's not any more dangerous or difficult to fly than any other complex (then or now) but it takes care, respect, training and experience to fly safely.

It got it's rep because of 'less skilled' pilots with more money than experience or common sense.

It epitomizes the adage:

Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.

I don't mind the comments, in this case, he was tongue in cheek, and I took it that way. There is a certain amount of give and take here. Comes with the territory.

I gave $32,500 with a fresh annual, two new cylinders, and I'm having them install shoulder harnesses before I fly it home. The early Bo is a lot of plane for the ave Cessna driver. It's easy to fly, and lands like a dream. Wide gear, long struts, well balanced. However, one has to be careful not to push the nose over at high power. It will jump to redline from yellow arc in a few seconds. For descent from 12,000' I pull back to ~15" Hg, just above the gear horn, and let it float down right at yellow arc or less. Avoid sharp turns, and make calls timely.

Doc has been unavailable for a few days, so I thought I would play along.

The headlights on the GT would not raise and lower nor would they illuminate. I suspected the headlight relay. I removed the GT's headlight and installed it in my 89. My '89's headlights would neither raise nor lower nor illuminate. I installed my headlight relay in the GT and the headlights work perfectly. The GT headlight relay is gonna get some attention.

The horn would not sound. I removed the fuse and it checked okay. I replaced the relay and the horn squawked for a split second then fell silent. I believe the issue is with the horn pad connection. The weather did not want to cooperate to further pursue the solution to this problem.

The steering rack boots are in my possession, but I was waiting on the SS brake lines to arrive to install both and to flush/bleed both brakes and clutch lines. This should happen this weekend.

The right side engine cooling fan does not seem to operate. My course of action will be to determine if it is a defective fan or a defective secondary fan amp (the black finned electronic piece at the very front of the passenger side of the car under the hood). I will power the fan independently to see it it is functional at all. I have extra fans if it does not work. If it is the secondary fan amp that is determined to be bad, well I have extras of those as well. Neither replacement of those two things will take more than 20-30 minutes.

Just waiting for the weather to cooperate and some spare time.

I will begin accumulating parts for the TB/WP replacement. The car has been licensed since 2003. Enough said about that for now.

Looks like 2019 will be a banner year for you Doc! Great score(s). I can't wait to see the GT parked in front of the Bonanza as your new avatar

My advice is to go the extra couple hundred and deal with a shipper directly. Not a broker..

Firemn, your advice should be shouted from the rooftops. From every 100 ship-thru-broker experiences, probably 2 are positive.

Thanks, I've been quite lucky, and am humbled by my good fortune. I'll arrange the picture for this spring. John is doing yeoman work on the car as it is sleeping at his place. I will go over this wknd and help him get the brakes in good shape as it's a two person job. We are(he is) sorting though all the typical 928 gremlins, and putting each system back in order. Once we get the TB/WP job and the brakes and rack boots sorted it will be ready to hit the road safely. After that point, I will relinquish the car to John as he's grown rather fond of it now that it's running and rolling! hehehehehe!!! I foresee plenty of good times ahead for the holy grail GT.

Update: I figured out the right side cooling fan issue. (Well at least the one I know about) A ham-handed person who plugged the harness back into the right side fan (pre-Doc or I) broke one of the male connectors off the motor. Last time I checked both sides of the plug needed to be plugged in. I will go to my storage tomorrow to pick up an extra stock fan motor.
