Does anybody know the weight of the windshield?
 

Does anybody have a stock windshield out of the car that could tell me how much it weighs?

Have one out of a car, but its 15 miles away, hopefully someone can quickly answer your question Carl.

IIRC, about 25lbs, and 15lbs of box/packing at least...depending on the box/padding style.

Carl, There are different windshields for these cars: Sigla, Sekurit, PPG etc.

I purchased a Sekurit windshield on eBay about ten years ago that was substantially lighter than the original.
I did not weigh it but it felt abut 30% lighter.
It is now in my 90 GT Outlaw. :burnout:

Mark was nice enough to take a used one off the shelf and weigh it for us. He said it weighed 24 pounds. He also said it still had some of the black rubber sealant still on it.

There is a new product here to talk about: we now have an inventory of (1) polycarbonate and hard-coated windshield for racers. It weighs 14 lbs.

From the webpage:

This windshield is made from scratch-resistant polycarbonate, PLUS, it has had a proprietary hard silicone coating applied to both sides. This stuff is tough! At the trade show, they had me take some 000 steel wool to it and give it a good rubbing. No scratches, no marks, no nothing! Safe for use with wiper blades.

Optically Clear: some polycarb window makers just mold the replacement windshield over the top of a glass windshield. Bad idea, as the glass prevents them from pressing down hard enough when they mold it, creating waves and distortion in the new window. Our manufacturer is making them with a metal mold, and because of this our windshields are free from distortion.

My memory is that the Sekuriflex windscreens are single glass outer layer with the plastic safety laminate on the inside surface. Others have the plastic between two glass layers, to comply with US regulations. Owners of grey-market cars in the US know how much fun it is when an inspection sticker is placed on the inside of the Sekuriflex windshield; removal without damage is virtually impossible.

Anyway, that may point to the weight difference.

My 85 had a Sekuriflex windshield in it. My understanding differes from Dr. Bob's slightly in that I was under the impression that is was essentially a standard laminated windshield with the addition of an extra layer on the inside.
