Default For those who have recovered front seats...

I am correcting a couple of issues on mine. There are two metal rods that fit down between the side bolsters and center cushions on the seat bottom.

These are not straight - they have a kink in them. I failed to take a good photo of these when removing them.

does the kink go at the front or back of seat bottom, and does the short end after the kink go up or down?

thanks all

Can you post a photo?

Those rods should be secured in the cover with a 180-degree loop at each end to prevent it from sliding off. I am assuming some one un kinked it to removed it from the cover. But hard to say include i can confirm what piece you are looking at

Thanks Benno -

this piece slides into into the little fabric pouch in either side and is what the hog rings grip onto to hold to the seat springs below.

cant remember which end goes towards front and does the hook go up or down.

On the three sets seats I’ve recovered (post 1985), the rods were straight. None had the bent rod. The three sets were:
- 1985+ 928 sport seats
- 1985+ 928 non sport seats
- 911 sport seats

This make me think the kink you are showing is not a stock bend. I have some in a box I can dig out for you on Sunday

EDIT: The bend seems to apply to pre-1985 seats. Which is what you are showing in your pictures. My experience has been with 1985+ seats and the bars do not have a bend in them as I just verified in my box of spare parts.

That’s interesting as both driver and passenger side had them. All of the other rods around the seat are straight.

i believe it goes with the kink towards the front.

will post some pics when it’s done.

thanks again!

I believe that rod with the bent end is used in the lower section of the seat at the rear. I can check tomorrow if you need to confirm. I believe the kink is up.

What slate said. These look like S4 + seats

It should follow the fabric sleeve which will be angled , you should see when you try and fit it

As previously mentioned. The pockets will correspond. The drop down is in the rear. That area accounts for the small section that goes under the seat back.

When confirmed, a pic of the seat again with the rod oriented as it should be would be fantastic. Thanks!

I've noticed a number of recovered seats that end up looking funny on the back rests up near the head rest, and I wonder now if these rods get flipped a lot.

And yes, clearly pre-85 seats. Careful with posts, commenters!

I’m away currently and I have some seats apart now. I can assure you that the bent end is at the rear of the seat near the hinges. Also I’m quite sure that once you fit it that way you will see that it will only fit one way and I think the bent small part goes up. That rod fits into the cotton sleeve. That was rotten on my seats. I’m putting on new covers so I need to fit that rod into my new covers and then you push down in the crevice of the seat which allows you to bull ring clip it from the bottom.

Ok first my apologies, I am doing two sets of seats and one is of the early type and the other the late type and they are different in terms of where that kink goes. The early type has it at the front not the back as I previously stated. Here’s some photos.
