New Hans 928 shifter

I thought I would give a quick review and let anyone else that has installed the new Hans shifter to chime in. I will let SeanR give his input on the install process/details etc.
First impressions are the build quality is quite nice and beefy. All components are really high quality down to the bolts/nuts sourced.
So, after a full day of driving, Wow! I’ve had the stock shifter, the Lizard shifter (no disrespect, was a great shifter for its time) and now the Hans shifter. The Hans shifter transforms the car completely. I thought the short coming of the 928 was the trans all along and now I believe it was really the original shifting mechanism. This short shifter takes shifting the car back to a pleasure from being a chore before. Makes the shifting much smoother -feels great. Nice job Hans SerVaas and great installation Sean Ratts!

Just for the record, I hate you a little bit.

God that thing is gorgeous.

Where would one acquire this shifter? It might be my next 'gotta have'.

From Hans.

My understanding is that he makes stuff in batches. Once a batch is sold out, you are SOL until he makes the next one.
Not sure what the status is on these.

So it'll go from a dead stop all the way to top speed without doing anything at all or even touching it like my RogerBox will?

Sorry, I just had to throw that in before Roger posted.

In Reality, a beautiful well thought out part installed correctly to further increase your driving pleasure. What could be better than that?

very nice Alex, I know the TT was dropped for the bearing replacement on your car but can the Hans shifter be installed without dropping the TT?

Yeah, but it take a fair bit of fiddling. You need access from below so you need to take exhaust and shields off. I didn't really document it, you have to build it together in the car. Take advantage of the slightly larger tunnel space anteriorly and side the clamp in. Have to think a little about how to get the bolts in before putting it in the car as there's not space to place the bolts once in the car. I didn't think it was possible when looking at it initially, but managed eventually. Even getting the shift rod onto the shifter was a chore - it's a tight fit and doesn't slide in, had to use a oil filter wrench with a socket as a spacer to push it in...

And it is a very nice shifter. I agree that a good shifter makes big difference in the enjoyment of a manual car. As I mentioned in a prior thread, It wasn't as 'transformative' as the CAE shifter was in my 2wd 993 turbo, but a big improvement, especially as I had worn cup and loose rear coupler that was replaced too. There's a fair bit of adjustments that can be done which is fun. Still haven't figured out the optimal spacers and height for me. Impression is the lateral throw seemed to be reduced more than forward back.

Would he make one for a 968?

Sean would be the best one to ask but we were already putting the Constantine bearings in (God, those are really nice too. Hated to bury them in the TT) so we upgraded WWWIT. Clutch was completely reworked also. Next up, probably bushings...

I have Constantines clamp to cure flex plate issues.......10 years and still solid......it too is a piece of art...........

Here is a photo of Hans & AO installing one in the "Coke" car without removing the TT at the Hell event in Michigan last summer.

They completed it in a few hours without to much drama or expletives emanating from car in the hot sun, so It can't be too bad of a job!
