Transmission work and Hans front bearing/shifter

Since I bought the car, had some grinding going into 2nd. I could shift up with some finesse without grinding but anyone else who tried, couldn't. I couldn't shift down into 2nd from 3rd without grinding. Car has 68880 miles. Final thing that made me take the plunge was the front cup on the shifter came off a couple of blocks from my house, could only get it into first gear and limp home to park on the lift.

Growing up on a farm, I consider myself kinda handy with tools but never taken a transmission apart nor did I know how they actually worked... Bought an inexpensive transmission lift adaptor for my jack. I thought I probably needed new synchros and perhaps dog gears for 2nd. Went ahead and ordered all the synchros, and a complete 1 & 2nd gear set (with countershaft)/seal kit (928 international), upgraded rear shift coupling (928 motorsports) and Hans shifter/front bearing block. When most of the parts arrived, I printed out the work manual, watched some you tube vids and took a lot of pics as I went along. I don't have a press and wasn't sure I was going to be able to take everything apart without one. Managed ok with treaded rods and a little fiddling. Wasn't sure I was going to be able to put everything back together without a press either but everything slid right on with parts heated in my wife’s new toaster oven. Lots of fun. Best of all it shifts great! We'll see how long it stays that way.

The Hans front bearing block for the record can be replaced without taking the torque tube down, but it also takes a moderate amount fiddling and small hands to get on with the torque tube in place.

I decided to also take the gas tank off to give myself more room and I also wanted to check the vent hose as I would get a gas smell sometimes when the gas tank was full. The vent hose was on and intact but the clamp was not tightened by the last person who dropped tank.
