That thing is the instrument of the devil. It pains me to admit it but I slit the bulbous part about 1/2 way, and ziptie the slit closed. Maybe it'd be easier with a bit of P80 rubber assembly lube- https://p80lubricants.com/p-80-thix/

I feel your pain. We use Dawn dish washing liquid (blue) as a temporary lubricant, and it goes on, with TWO GUYS. Four hands is what makes it work. With one guy it's almost impossible. You get the front side on and the back falls out, etc.
