Default RDK tyre pressure sensor hole delete

Is there a simple cost effective replacement for plugging/deleting the RDK sensor in 928 rims other than welding up the holes ....... alternatives?

Is there a source for good used potentially non working sensors to use as a plug? Need 8! All other parts such as seals and rubber covers look available new. The sensors and retaining rings are spendy parts.

I have brand new NOS wheels and would like not to damage them by welding ideally. Thanks in advance

Yes, they'd be $75 each this month. Not sure he's got 8, but possibly.

thank you for the tip. Unfortunately buying 8 even at $75ea will work out as much as the 4x brand new old stock wintercults I’ve just bought....

TechArt had custom parts years ago for this when they sold aftermarket OZ wheels with sensor holes. They used stock nuts and seals. Friend has probably last never used set which was available about five years ago when TechArt was cleaning up their warehouse and put old stuff to german eBay.

Rob, do you have the link to the front sensors too? Please post!

I actually had tried just yesterday to find them on Mark's site and I couldn't!!!

Even tried a direct google search on only the site... :-(

FWIW, I can't find the 2.5 bar sensors on the website either. Certainly worth a call to Tom tomorrow, but I'd bet that any 2.5 bar sensors were sold to people who wanted 2.5 bars at all 4 corners.

I was able to find a set of well used/damaged D90's locally for $200 and robbed the sensors out of them for my Cup 1's. Worked out to $50/wheel to get everything I needed, then took the wheels for recycling and got back $50 in scrap value. Keep an eye on Craigslist etc. or check with your local PCA group...you never know what people have laying around in garages and sheds. D90's or flat disk wheels from '90-'91 will work (started in '89 ROW), and I believe RDK sensors also came in some 911's of the same era. Your bigger expense might be the tooling required if you do not already have it...

I am wondering if there are any new inventions on this issue? How to fill the holes? I managed to remove the RDK sensors from 3 Cup I wheels and can instal new o-rings. But one wheel refuses to give up on both sensors. As the intention is just to make sure the tyre will keep its pressure, I am wondering has anyone tried to clue a cover on top of the sensors? Would it hold? Any other solutions? Is there any hope that Porsche Classic would be producing new nuts so I could just cut those out?

Could you just leave the sensors in if you're not using the system?

If removing them to sell on, then I seem to remember they are 30mm diameter, so you can get bolts and nuts that size so you could tighten them into the holes and put generous amount of RTV sealant around the bolt head on tyre side. May have remembered size wrong, but I looked into this as a way of masking off the sensor wells and mounting surface for the nuts when I had set of Cup I wheels powder-coated last year. In the end just masked the holes conventionally after removing sensors and all the sensors have sealed fine except for one which I will reseal as it loses enough air to require topping up every couple of days!

Welding exists and easy to find. A good shop can mill up a proper plug too.

I don't think it needs a new invention.

You can leave them in, until they leak..rare...but..if _I_ had the wheels off, I would weld them. Then there are a total of zero issues with the solution.

Thank you for quick answers! The options are therefore to have the holes welded or find someone who makes suitable plugs for the holes. The rims are in Helsinki, Finland, but I am visiting LA in December. Would there be a workshop there with experience with suitable plugs? Plugs would be a more interesting option, because then I might even try to put the sensors back at some point in the future.
