huge difference.
Previously owned an '89 5 speed S4 and now the '90 GT. The GT came with the sport shock option while the S4 did not. The GT is peakier and stiffer, but is also faster and handles better......but not by a vast amount.
Both were/are fun, but the GT gets the nod.

I was the previous owner of that '91 GT...
..and I was just visiting the board here (haven't been here since I sold it a year ago!). Imagine my surprise at seeing my former car as a topic of discussion! I was looking through my notes, and I happen to still have the info I typed up when I was trying to sell it. Here is is:
'91 928GT, Guards Red/Tan, 55k
This is what I did to the car just before I sold it to Willhoit:
New brake pads and rotors
New Airbag ECU
New fuel injection brain
New Rear Muffler Bypass Exhaust, all new exhaust hangers
New clutch master and slave cylinder
New shift fork bushing
Recent tires
Major Service (Timing belt, tensioner, water pump, plugs, all fluids, all accessory belts)
New Sony CD/MP3 Audio system w/ MB Quart component speakers and JL Audio Amplifer ($2200)
928GTS Rear Bumper Cover (installed after minor rear-end collision)
Re-charge A/C
New Floor Mats (2 sets)
Flaws:
Minor rock chips on front nose and side mirrors
Small split in piping on driver’s seat
Rear tires are 50%
Small scratch on lip of left rear wheel and flaking paint on the edge of a couple other wheels
Cracks in plastic wheelwell liners
I actually bought the car from Willhoit in late '01, then sold it back to him about a year ago. The rear-end collision just damaged the rear bumper cover and RMB. The repairs were done at Ferrari of Houston, where I work, and the car drove perfectly, tracked true, etc. When I sold the car, it needed absolutely nothing mechanically. I think mid $20's for that car is a good deal, as I paid $30k in '01 and put well over $10k into what was already a very nice car. You'd be pretty hard pressed to find any 928 at this point that hasn't had some sort of damage or paintwork, and that car is a REAL GT, with low miles, well-serviced, and a great color.

Joseph,
What is the difference between a "pretty good whack" and a minor rear-end collision?
----- from your first post
My '91 GT took a pretty good wack in the rear end a couple of weeks ago. I needed a new rear bumper cover, which is no longer available, so I decided to go with a GTS bumper cover, courtesy of 928 International....

Well....
Moon, I guess when it's your baby you consider anything that puts it in the shop for a couple of weeks a pretty good whack! I was at a stop and was rear-ended, hard to estimate the speed since he had locked up the brakes and was slowing...probably 15 mph or so. The car needed the bumper cover, one rear lamp, one bumper pad, bumper struts and supports, and RMB. Pretty much what you would expect from that kind of accident. In the 928 scheme of things I suppose you would consider it fairly minor, as just about anything you might consider a major collision would most certainly total one of these cars due to the repair costs v. book values. I would recommend a potential buyer use due dilligence and get a PPI before buying this or any other 928! There are very few "virgin" cars out there, as most of the serviceable 928's are now pushing 15-20 years old. I looked for over a year to find an excellent car, but it was only a new car once.
