Body and interior are really bad . If at least one was good I would just grab it and get to work on it .

That car is at least $10K+ away from being at the level of some rough CL cars that you could get for around $2K. Even at free it would better to walk, unless you were going to use it for parts. But to restore, I would look for something a lot further along.

Like this...near you and a 5-speed

Or for a few grand more like this...also a 5-speed and no rubbies..nice!.

Not the worst I have seen, or even undertaken. Other than the rust around the rear quarters I don't really see what you are all so scared about here. Most any early 928 is going to need seat covers, paint and dash restoration. Looks like the body is straight and the car is unmolested if under maintained. Rust looks superficial, though it might not be. Have to know more, but seems like a do-able project for someone.

Build a plan and a budget. Time and dollars and hours needed. Then decide.

Can the car be saved? Yes, of course.

Should the car be saved? Probably, it's one of the most iconic cars ever made.

Is it worth saving? Much tougher call. If we, the most educated and experienced group of people dealing with this car's pedigree and maintenance, have to debate the pro's and con's... then it's tough to justify.
As was mentioned, the amount of time and money to restore would likely eclipse any realized market value afterwards. Objectively speaking, we just don't have the inertia that the air coolers got when people were fighting over burnt out piles of car, to restore a 911.
If saved, you would have the undying respect and fealty of 280ish of us that would appreciate what it took to make it whole again.

How is this a 'special edition'?

It's an 82 with the Competition Group option package.
That was simply an appearance package to make up for the fact that the "S" was available only in the RoW markets.

That’s an easy one Joe
You only have one cup of Coffee before posting and transcribe club sport with sport competition, forgetting the CS only applies to S4.

He fixes it, and ducks for cover.

Fair enough.

No need to run for cover. Honest mistakes are easy to understand.

I was wondering if I was missing something.
