You said something about strewing ladies underware along the road.

I don't want to know how it is that you carry extra ladies underware. BUT I think this advise is going to come in handy:
Better to stop by a Tiffany's and a baker and a florist on the way home!
Glad you got to Canton with your new shark and congratulations and welcome.

Well I thought the sight of my big fish swimming silently thru the sea would elicit more of a reaction from the local lady types- but alas we just barreled down the road too fast for them to catch up to us.

Obviously, I'm late to this thread, but one thing I wish I'd done when I'd flown to Orange County, California to pick up my '90 S4 and drive it back to it's new home in Phoenix, Arizona, was to check the date code on the tires. I'd paid a local Porsche mechanic to do an in-depth pre-purchase inspection and told him I planned to drive the car back to Arizona. I asked that he pay particular attention to issues that might affect the car's reliability on the drive. He didn't mention the tires and I didn't check them other than to see that they had plenty of tread (it was already dusk when I picked up the car). I arrived safely and without incident. But, had I been aware I was riding on 12 year old tires, I wouldn't have opened her up to over 120 mph when passing a line of 18-wheelers!

Yikes! My tires had a ‘13 code in them, in the Spring I’ll put on new ones. BTW they are Cont extr contact- the mechanic said I definitely want a tire with stiff sidewalls- so I might as well start asking what you guys like- tho of course I’ve seen some threads that rec these Contis

I like the Continental Extreme Contact series. IMHO they are a great balance of performance and price. I run them on my 986 Boxster and the all-weather version (Extreme Contact DWS) on the 928. The only reason I run the DWS on the 928 is I use it as my daily and temps will dip below freezing here in NW Arkansas. The regular Extreme Contact are a warm weather tire.

Great- as I plan on driving this most of the year, I also need a temp flexible tire- also needs to do pretty well in rain

13 code isn't a huge deal as long as the car was stored out of the elements. YMMV

Last fall, I brought a car home from the port. A 65 mile drive. Looked over the car upon arrival, all looked good... tires round... black... held air, etc.
By the time I got home, the SIDEWALLS were showing cords. The rubber had begun to chunk away from the sides. One pair were 2001, the others were 2003. This was the most extreme I've seen. Ever.

Just took my 11 y old out for a 20 minute drive to a McDonalds that’s only 4 miles away. What a joy this is to drive. Straight muscle car. I love the stiff steering, and driving around town with the mail slot open is just spectacular!

I guess you know you got a good one when u call 928srus and you tell the nice man on the phone whose car you just bought and he chuckles and tells me how solid my car will be because the PO spared no expense fixing the car up. Feeling lucky to be the next caretaker of this old shark.

Happy to hear your trip was such a pleasure! That is a beautiful car (I'm a fan of black). Many years ago I bought an 88 S4 5-speed in Detroit and drove it straight through to Florida. These cars love the highway...

Enjoy!

A nice reference for those tires we have to date check before driving our purchases home.

Hey guys- I took the car over to my Dad’s so he can tool around for awhile. The car has been stationary there for about 30 hours. I looked underneath the car and there seems to be a small oil spot right underneath the alternator and whatever sits just aft of the alternator- and those surfaces look slick- maybe it’s dirty water but felt like oil. Any ideas- other than obviously the car leaks oil. Thanks for any help. I didn’t want to start a whole new thread and there’s enough gurus on this thread already that I figured you guys would nail it right away.
