Preparing for Fly and drive pickup
alright boys, I’m going to fly down to Little Rock later this week to pick up my shiny black S3. JD the seller assured me the car is good to go and won’t leave me stranded. I’ll be taking the fastest route back to Canton, OH (about 12 hour drive). Any advice for a shark rookie with no mechanical prowess?

When I sold my 90GT the new owner flew into OKC from New Hampshire and drove it back. He brought a radar detector and a bunch of CDs to play. I put him up for the night in my guest bedroom. The next morning we did the car deal, he faxed his bank to transfer the money etc. Then we went to a local dyno shop and dynoed it. Went to lunch, then he left for New Hampshire planning to stop and sleep about half way. He called me the next day a little before noon telling me it was so comfortable and drove so well he just drove straight thru and didn't stop. And that the weather was nice so he was going driving. I think he really liked the 90GT!

Make sure you pack your phone's car charger - if something happens you can always post on Rennlist. I'd also download Waze on your phone (it's free) for GPS nav, police alerts, traffic jams, etc.

Having done this a few times before smart phones (and even cell phones), how did we survive? If the car won't last 12 hours on the highway, I'd probably pass on the buy, or ship it home, to avoid drama.

JD the seller is a fellow RLer and has been very straightforward about the car- and has accomplished a lot of rebuild over the last 4 years. So gotta roll the dice- but hey the Lord hates a coward!

AB your way over reacting.
Your going to do a title transfer and pay the man,
then your going to get into that machine and drive it .
No drama, just a nice smooth safe ride.
Check the levels before you leave.
Oh and have a great trip, you picked a nice machine

Take an extra day or two and take in parts of the country you've may have never been to. Eureka Springs comes to mind and a cool town worth exploring. pm: RL member "Ammonman" Mike lives in NW Arkanas and would best know alternative routes to take instead of the the typical boring highways. If having any troubles with the car it doesn't hurt that Mike knows his way around a 928 either. Safe travels whatever route you choose T

Headed east and north from Little Rock I'd take US167 north to AR5 which will take you to the town of Mountain Home. In Mountain Home pick up US412 and follow it all the way to Dyersburg, TN. From there head northeast through Union City, TN and western Kentucky toward Indiana and Ohio. Eureka Springs is a cool town as Tony says but a bit out of your way. If you are no tin a hurry you can follow the route above and when you get to Mountain Home turn west on US412 instead of east and once you pass through Harrison, AR look for US 62. That will take you right to Eureka Springs.

Thanks guys- if you hear a low growling Thursday afternoon, followed by a trail of ladies underwear inexplicably strewn about the highway- you’ll know I’ve been thru there!

If the car doesn't have a spare tire, take a tire plug kit with you. Dynaplug Pro off Amazon, and maybe a fuel pump relay jumper.
Otherwise, enjoy the drive with your new ride - it's a great way to get to know her. Picked up both my 997s as fly and drive - one from Pittsburgh and one from Detroit.
