I would like to lock my gas cap but I can't. The key turns in the lock but doesn't lock the cap. Can that be fixed somehow?

Yes it can, but the cap must be taken apart and then the ratcheting pawl inside must be replaced with one that is available only from me, or shortly from 928 international. The trick is in getting the cap apart without breaking it. Many have done it with some small screwdrivers and such but some have also broken it trying. I have developed a device to take it apart more likely without breaking it, but I haven't figured out how to make the device available to many others without a lot of monkey business shipping it around. I have in the recent past offered a service where you would send me your cap and your key and I would do the repair for $45 and return it by mail, but that too has its drawbacks. I think 928 International might be offering something similar after I send them one of my separating devices.

When I saw this thread a couple days ago I thought "Hmm, I wonder if my key works on the gas cap? I should go try it right now." That was a huge mistake. It locked easily but took at least an hour of futzing around to get it unlocked. Finally ended up using my spare key (the less used one.) My advice to anyone is let sleeping dogs lie and DON'T mess with it.

Jerry, If you think you can fix my cap for $45, you have a deal. Where do I send it?

My name and address are in my Avatar. Send it with your key, if you can do without it for a few days.

Randy, if you come up with a replacement cap from GB or otherwise, and if you can make it to SF, I have just put in the mail for Mark A. one of my separating devices for his use and for the use of anyone else who might find their way to his place at 928 International. I had been waiting to complete the instructions, with pictures, but did not get around yet to the pictures, so I send a few copies of the instructions without pictures. One can use some imagination until I finalize with pictures; but I thought it would be a good idea to have the device there at SF in case anyone else might want to take their cap apart. I also sent Mark a bunch of Gas Cap Pawls that he can provide for a small price if anyone is interested. I wish I could be there to help with the device, but I can't get away right now.

Thanks, Jer - I'll get with MA and GB at ST - I'm sure we'll work something out. Need MA to cut me a key anyway.

Thumbs up Thank you, Jerry!

Thank you Jerry, I am looking forward to having another bit of my 928 function as intended, no matter how trivial

I appreciate that John. I like your attitude; and I think that is why I went to the trouble to make these little Pawls.
