Definitely a "Top of the Pops" soundtrack! That circuit looks real fun to drive.

The tracks on my "Bucket list" have to be Spa in Belgium or the Nordschliefe [or however it is spelt] in Germany. Ironically they are not that far apart in similar countryside. In the UK my favourite tracks are Brands Hatch and Oulton Park for cars and for bikes it would be Cadwell Park [short circuit] but there is just nothing to compare to the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy circuit- takes ***** of steel to ride that beast!

To Greg B's crazy posts about "winning", interestingly, the 928 was in the top 3 (actually a podium finish) for a sub-class they had for years. GT2-ST. All but 2 of the other cars ahead of me, were tubed framed race cars or factory race cars........not too bad for the 31 year old bucket of bolts!

I have been around SCCA Majors/ Nationals racing a long time, I have never heard of this sub class in GT, could you provide any additional information?

I was made aware of it before the last Nationals. ST class was for cars that had run in world Challenge GT races, and would run in GT2 as of GT2-ST. you didnt get a podium for the class, but there was recognition for placing in that class mixed into the actual placing of all cars in GT2. what i didnt realize is that during the last few years, the next step was to take the WCGT cars and toss them into T1, which i had NO idea they would do.. so, not its back to the SCCA folks to see if i can get the 928 into T1... that would have been a little better finish for me, however, they are extremely fast, and im still well below the performance bar that has been set by the front runners. (i.e. 500+hp, etc)

Interesting , I can't find a mention of this class anywhere in the GCR going back the past few years, Is it some sort of regional only class? Best of luck with the T1 switch, the age of the car is not in keeping with the goal of the Touring class as a whole as I understand it but I am sure that you understand that.

This might have been more than a few years ago. it was before the laguna 2014 nationals, and my efforts started in 2013 to get the car in a class that could compete. could have been a regional classification. ill have to check my old notes. as far as age................really? is this how the NSX got in to T1 from world challenge? what about the e36 bmw, the porsche 944, and of course the 300zx. and what about the RX7!! the porsche 928 was made until 1996, so it fits RIGHT into the VTS age range, but most importantly, you must have forgotten the recent merge of all the WCGT cars that were previously GT2-ST, or STO, that were allowed to compete in T1. It doesnt seem like "age" is one of the goals, as seen by recent moves, does it to you ?

It does seem that way to me, of all of the cars in all the Touring classes 1-4 registered at the runoffs this year , the NSX was the only car build before 2001. Good luck, I will say “hello” on the T-1 grid @ VIR next year, cheers!

sure, why wouldnt you want to run with a newer car if you could... that is no surprise.. However, thats not the point. the point is, the winner was a prior to MY2000 car, and for that point alone, i have no doubts the 928 could fit in the class, and with its WCGT VTS, its a shoe in, because thats where old WCGT cars go. (per the rules) . i woldnt make the trip out unless there was better parity with my car vs the Vets and that surely wont happen. So, ill wait to complete locally and have fun with whom ever is racing around me in the same "class". as a side note, i truly think that the proper class would be the 928 fitting into T2 . the only problem might be the amount of weight it would have to carry.

Sounds good to me Mark, I hope you change your mind as VIR is certainly worth the trip for sure. Best of luck with your attempts to reclassify your car into a class that would better fit the performance of your 928, running over 9 seconds off of the pole time in GT2 seems to support your case. Cheers.

Thanks! Yes, VIR is on the bucket list. (along with road Atlanta)..... Ill see how the year turns out...... (money , car class, car improvements) BUT, yes, i think the 928 should be in T1 but even to the rules AND the monsters they have let in T1, I only see it within 4-5 seconds off the pole times of the NSX. however, even if the NSX was missing, the performance of the mustangs are 2-3 seconds faster. thats ok, built to the rule limits, i might be able find a couple of seconds in that class. its only money.. BUT, in T1 one of my good friend Darrel, and his mustang, ended up 3rd with a time 3-4 seconds off the pole, so anything is possible. If i can get the engine anywhere near the power levels of what it made in World Challenge with mark andersons build, it could have a chance to be up front... again, its only money and a lot of work. but thats racing.

You've made us proud Mark. Keep it up!

PS: That's one mean looking Mustang! Not sure I'm all that fond of the NSX, I think you'd do better than her in a bar with that 928 of yours .

Regards,
