I have a lead on a nice 1982 928

Pictures and info
The car is in great condition, but I'm too big to fit in it. I'm 6'2" with a long waist (short legs). It has a sunroof, which probably takes some of the head room.
It has 11,272 miles. Air conditioning works. She had a receipt from May 2013 that showed $15,000 of service, including a little over 4,000 for heads... Not sure if they were replaced or serviced. Lots of seals, hoses and gaskets too.
Tires Tires looked good. Lots of tread and no signs of rot, but they may have flat spots
It started right up, but I didn't drive it. For one, I'm too big. But also, there was a warning light... A bid red ! Came on. The poor lady was in tears because of it.
Anyway... I'm not going to buy it.
Anyone care to guess why the warning light came on? it had plenty of oil.

The Central Warning Light (!) will come on for a variety of reasons (this is in the Owner's Manual).
When it does, the 'reason' should be lit up on the cluster. There should be an individual fault light (oil pressure, coolant, fuel level, ect).
One reason for it to come on at startup is "parking brake". I can see from the pic that the handle is up.
It's entirely possible that releasing it would have turned the light off.
You may want to call the lady or re-visit. It would really suck for her to let it go 'cheap' over a light that means nothing.

I called her. The guy who came after me bought it. It wasn't the parking break. She let it go for "a little less $18,000." The sunroof didn't work, and the AC was blowing warm by the time he got there.
She said he was very knowledgeable and showed up in a Porsche.

Flash guys. One of my club members bought it. We had barely gotten back from Frenzy and Joel Roberts got a call from one of our members talking about this 1982. Joel describes it as actually being 11,000 mile car needs a lot of work just got off the phone with Joel he got a call from the new owner saying he was at a fast food place and it I didn’t want to start. Stay tuned

Way too low.
And that is from the bottom feeder talking. 11k miles, no matter if it needs some catch up work it should go for over $20k easy. Oh well.

Well, the second call from Joel was the car not starting after going in for fast food. Joel went over with a fuel pump relay and got it started. That price was what it's worth with all the catch up that will have to be done. The guy who bought it is not a guy who wrenches. $$$

I've had an occasional "!" with no corresponding cluster indicator on a few occasions. I have what I presume to be a glitchy coolant level sensor that sometimes comes on, then goes off, then on, and sometimes flickers on momentarily. My theory is that sometimes that triggers the "!" but is gone again so fast I don't notice the coolant level indicator. Yes, clearly that pressure sensor in the coolant line is also not working.
Perhaps the warning light was something like that.

Howdy guys. I inspected this car quickly at night with a flashlight. The warning light was a parking light bulb - no biggie. It is a ONE owner car. The car has ALL the service records since new (which there aren't a lot since it only had 11K miles) and the returned check when purchased... CASH baby. All documentation including the original window sticker with the ink faded to white - barely make out the dot matrix printer letters but it was there at one time. Owners manual, etc, look brand new - probably never read. Serviced by MAG in Columbus OH with all service dates stamped in the service manual - big gaps in a couple of dates of course which would make sense. The odometer works, all the interior *****, etc, look new. The interior, while not CLEAN, is in great shape. All leather with some vinyl trim showing hardly any use - no wear at all really. Leather dash is smooth w/ no warping or cracking and the steering wheel, driver bolster and shift **** look relatively new (as in not used). Interior carpets show minimal wear (although dirty, some hay littered in the driver floor and a little musty) with all original foam underlay, blue plastic cover, etc, like new (no one's been under there) while the dealer supplied Porsche mats are old and dried out but hardly any wear. Under the hood is all stock - it is truly a "barn find" as it was stored in a barn uncovered so the hood liner is toast along with the foam mat under the hatch carpet... just degrading with age to dust. Surface corrosion on the metal parts under the hood, dirt, musty, etc, and in need of the usual deferred maintenance although NO MICE or other critters. Needs lots of LOVE and detailing... Had $15K worth of service 5 years ago including head work (probably sitting w/ antifreeze for too long). Currently no major issues, no smoking, no antifreeze in the exhaust, no oil exchanging with antifreeze (so the head work cured that problem) no oil leaks or leaks of any kind anywhere - the valley is bone dry, along with all the other usual spaces. Everything works except the A/C (compressor not engaging) and the Sunroof (probably gummed up with old grease - it does get power & tries to engage). The exterior was in great shape, no hits, no dents, with very minimal light scratches. It will buff out very nicely. She needs a LOT of the usual deferred maintenance, tune up, etc, but everything looked solid and in the condition I'd expect for a VERY LOW mileage car sitting in a barn. I WISH it would have been kept in a heated garage, etc, but how many of those are sitting around waiting to be found that Alex hasn't already bought? LOL!!!

I have a question... Considering the mileage of 11K miles... Should he even ATTEMPT to clean the car up, detail it, etc, or leave IT AS IS...? I'm not a collector... I'm a DRIVER so I have no idea what this car would be worth brought back to original LOOKS vs left in ORIGINAL condition...? Alex, Stan, Roger... all you OB guys have any input? The new owner is a great guy - of course he's a 928 Buckeye Landshark - and is really looking for some guidance. Thanks!!! Joel

IMHO, the "barn fresh" look doesn't really help the value of a car like this. If it was a '32 Ford or '71 Cuda, then maybe. The best look (and where the value is) for this car is going to be sparkling showroom new. Bring the mechanicals up to date, detail the heck out of it, and replace anything crusty, gummed up, or dried out.
