Default Door lock sequencing.

Is there a write up on how to make sure the door locks are set so they sequence correctly. A few months ago my pax door handle broke..did the usual repair and also re finished the black surround on the outside. Ever since this point , both door locks will cycle continuously ..or until they appear to be in sequence with one another, at which point they stop either unlocked or locked. Some times they will cycle for about 5 seconds...other times nearly 30 until they stop.

in short...The car now locks me inside. I have to push the red unclock button to unlock the doors and then time my opening of the handle/door just right as to open the door as the lock cycles up (unlocked) on the driver side. It is a matter of time until i get locked in.

im sure its a matter of an adjustment. Want to get the facts before i dive into that horrible place again.

TIA..87 S4 auto...last job was replacing the pax door handle assembly.

Follow the WSM directions on adjusting them outlined in section 57 - 21 and on.

I did this in my 81 and the locks worked great until I stopped driving the car.

Tony, did you check the two Fuses above the CE?
I read if one is blown it will /can cause this.

Quick follow up.....

fixed.

4 items need to be loosened. The two Hex head bolts ....and the 2, 8 mm bolts/nuts (one of which is hidden out of view but you are able to get a wrench behind it.) Once these items are loosened you can slide/adjust the whole assembly fore/aft.
I closed my door, let the locks go through there spastic cycling and as they did i slid the assembly slightly. Didnt take much but the cycling stopped. Snugged the bolts and done. Not going to put the panel on or leave my keys in the car just yet.....going for a few days of door closing here and there to see if it is truley "adjusted" as several time the locks would cycle when the passenger door was closed. The jarring/impact
was apparently enough to effect the adjustment. As mechanical and crued as it looks behind there, it is VERY sensitive to adjustments.

Thnx for the guidance.
