Default Recommendations for Transport Company?

Hi everyone, I'm shipping my '89 928S4 from Atlanta to my brother in CT. I've got quotes from Reliable and Intercity, both for around $1,200. Any recommendations for good companies that can do this cheaper or should I just go with one of these. My car is nice so I plan on going for enclosed transport.

Thanks!

Steve

Contact tara@corporateautotransport.com requesting an enclosed transport quote from p-up zip and drop off zip codes. Oh and love to see pics of your beauty. T

That’s about the going rate for a reputable enclosed transporter. You might be able to save a couple bucks by shopping through a broker, but then who do you call if you need anything ?? And buy anything, I mean damage, delays, etc.

My $02, if at all possible drive it and avoid these *** clown moving companies. I moved every 2-3 years and always paid to ship the 928 (for 20 years.) Almost invariably there will be damage and when you point it out at the receiving end you'll hear "Sorry my dude, that's the way I received it." Okay, fine - I'm filing a claim. "No problem my dude, but first you have to go through your insurance company and we'll pay the remainder." Great, so now I'm at risk of my premiums going up and loss of my deductible.

Paid top-dollar to have my GTS crated when I moved here from Germany last year. Still got scratch marks all down the side from an ***-hat walking around inside the crate--probably with his wallet chain clipped to his belt loop. Sorry, sore subject with me...

If you do decide to ship, apply due diligence and search Yelp or Angie's List on the company. Spoiler alert - you'll find I'm not alone on my assessment.

Stay away from low bid contract shippers like Door to Door. Best to pay for a good reputable shipper or load a uhaul trailer yourself. There is rarely a quality company in between in my (sometimes bad) experience.

Intercity literally door to door. No damage took 3 weeks.

Failed to mention^^having shipped approx., 20+ vehicles over the last 30 years (all open transport) and never the slightest problem/damage during transport. Recently shipped this 2011 E-350 from VA to AZ. Highly recommend vehicles loaded onto the top rack...cars sit approx 8' off the ground during transport...no stones chips up that high and very safe IMHO. Loading the car on the bottom rack has always worried me by far. Leaky brake fluid, oil, gas, etc., can drip down on the cars paint below whether the transporter is open or enclosed....not good. I've always asked the seller to ask the driver of transport "are you putting this car on the top rack....and all the way to the destination?" If he says yes..we are all set. If he says no, I ask the seller to tip the driver $ 50-$100 cash and promise to reimburse the seller. If I'm the one selling I'll do the same. Always worked for me T

Check out USHIP.com. They even have an app. Lots of quotes will come in with reviews and then you can choose. Got mine shipped from Philadelphia to SF Bay Area for under a dollar a mile. Delivered perfectly.

I have shipped three cars through independent brokers and had big trouble 2 out of the 3. Month plus long delays and cars arriving filthy (paid for enclosed) were the problems.
When I purchased my 2016 Turbo S from Sonnen Porsche they recommended an independent transporter they used often and it took 6 weeks to get the car. Communication was so bad I thought or a while that the car had been stolen!

Gave up on the clown parade of independents and went with Reliable and would never ever go back. Reliable provides clean door to door service and great communication for only a few dollars more.

I have had multiple successes with uship... To get serious, mature, and professional independent shippers :

1. the lowest price is not necessarily the best deal (big surprise here right?)
2. Reviews matter, and numbers of reviews matter (think ebay feedback)
3. When someone bids on your shipment, ask for pictures of the shipper's truck and trailer...this is how I eliminate many would be shippers.
4. If messages / emails from shipper are written in garbled lazy-*** texting "language" they are eliminated from consideration. I think the reasoning of "If you're too lazy to type a sentence you're not moving my special car" is valid.
5. Once you choose a shipper you are provided a phone number for them. Call the guy, have a 10 minute conversation with him....you'll know if you want him moving your car. If you're not feeling it you can cancel the shipment and start over.
Best part..once you have a success with that shipper, you have his number and you may not have to deal with uship again. I've met some great shippers on there that I use over and over now.

Hi there, I think by now you must have got your car transported safely to the destination. But in case if you ever came across the similar situation, I would advise you to check the online quotes of different shipping companies and then choose the team who is real and have DOT certification and offer you the best deals. The DOT certificate itself will give the proof of genuine service offered by the particular team. And try to analyze the years of experience the team have and the quality of service they offer. Moreover, you can also get the reference from reputed service from your area.

What do you mean by 'DOT Certification'?

How does the DOT "prove genuine service"?

DONT USE RITE WAY WHEELS, THEY SUCK ALSO DONT USE A BROKER, THEY HAD THE CAR OFF FROM ONE CARRIER TO ANOTHER, TNATS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME PURCHASED MY 85 S3 FROM NEW YORK SHIPPED TO THE BAY AREA, CA. CAR ARRIVED WITH 28 MORE MILES THAN WHEN PURCHASED, AND SEVERAL CHIPS,
BEST ADVICE TAKE PICS BEFORE YOU SHIP AND INSURE IT BEFORE YOU SHIP IT, sorry for the caps just realized the cap lock was on, man getting old sucks, anyway the pics before it SHIPPED saved me with the insurance complete re spray,😃 my car SHIPPED open trailer cost 900.00 from coast to coast would have paid more not to go through the hassles with the shipping company.
