Default 87 S4 New Owner

I just wanted to introduce myself, I've been a Porsche owner of various models for the last 12 years. I currently have an '86 M491 Targa I bought in 2010 and my wife drives a Macan GTS and '05 Boxster (her summer ride). I've always wanted a 928 since I was a kid (first gen is my favorite).

Anyway, a few weeks ago I was cruising the classifieds and jumped on a recently listed '87 S4, two owner local car, its a 5-speed slick-top, in Dark Blue with a White interior... It was love at first sight, and now she's home :-) This forum has been a great research tool while learning about them, I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more from me, as it has some little issues that I chalk up to being 35 years old.

Cheers! Mike

Welcome to the best automotive community in the world!
I've always believed that I would not be comfortable owning 928 without this community.
Glad you're finally joining the mix!

...is worthless...

Sorry about that (I've belonged to enough boards to know better) here she is next to her new sibling, our '86 M491 Targa.
Sooooo..... after getting home I took the 928 out on a really long drive at dusk and just loved it! .... I immediately started dreaming about getting a GTS and a first gen (its truly an illness). Anyway, what a great under appreciated car, much better than I had ever imagined!

Cheers! Mike

Awesome pair Mike. Loving the RUF wheels on the air cooled 911. Working on a supercharged RUF 911 myself today.

Incredible 997!!! I didn't realize RUF offered Superchargers, is that a 997+ thing or have they had them in the past as well? Beautiful Porsche Stable BTW

Thanks a lot.

RUF did them for just a few years only like from maybe 2005-2007 or 2008. It was an expensive and extensive kit (about $30k at the time so they didn't sell very many). As best I can tell, this is one of 3 997 RUF R-Kompressors in the US. There's a black coupe in Atlanta and was a white over Navy can owned by Sloan Motorcars - don't know if they still have that one or not. There was a black 4S in Canada bought by a guy in FL but his supercharger blew a seal and he had it converted to a Turbo. That's the car I bought the complete spare kit from and send the supercharger itself off to Germany to have it rebuilt, so have that as a spare if mine blows the seals at some point.

Then there was another GT Silver one that is the only other one with my Rear RGR bumper and it was sold out of Miami to a guy in Chile. So, they're pretty rare and your more likely to see an R-Turbo or RT12 from the RUF stable than one of these R-Kompressors. A bit of a pain when it comes to services like this, but that's the price you pay for 485 HP or RWD awesomeness, and I love the uniqueness of it.

This is what it looks like when it's not in pieces.

Awesome! It has a very GT2 look up front and without fender vents it looks so much tougher. (brilliant on the backup unit).

I imagine its pretty torquey Is it Tip/PDK or Manual?

It's an 05 6-speed manual. It's a rocket and has a coilovers suspension with complete RSS Tarmac series setup and TPC'S DSC controller making the suspension fully active based on g-forces. It does everything so flawlessly, it's my favorite in the garage. My 84 928 is my DD and it's awesome too. Each car is very different from the others and why I like the variety.
