Had a chance to spend a couple days with Sean working on the car this past weekend. I really haven't spent much time over the last 10 years with her as the GTS always took a "front seat" in that time period. Sold the GTS (Charlie Car) almost a year ago and have really missed the "project process" with these cars. With 3rd Coast coming up, it was time to start getting her ready for the upcoming 800-900 miles worth of spirited driving she will see. After giving it the once over, Sean noticed one of the CV boots cracked and grease everywhere. As far as i know, they were original, with the original factory grease.

So,
First order of the day was to rebuild the CV joints, repack w grease, and add new boots. I'd not been into that part of the car, so got to learn quite a bit there from Sean.
We also bled the brakes (which looked like dirty pond water - probably from the 2005 S4 brake upgrade we did), put in a new Battery Ground strap, and changed the coolant.
Since we had the exhaust out, I resprayed the pumpkin with high temp black paint.

I've got Michelin Pilot Sports on the car, but after looking at the date code a few weeks ago, I noticed they around 10yrs old. So the next few things Sean was going to do is getting put on the back burner for now as she'll need new Rubber before 3rd Coast. Next 2 things at Sean's are new shocks (which i already have from Roger) and Main wiring harness which is corroded several inches down form the 14pin connector. Even with the old arss tires and original shocks, the car is surprisingly smooth just cruising down the highway. (She now has just over 67K miles on it)

I'm just really stoked to reengage with this car. She's been in the family since 1982. My dad bought this car after looking at 911s and bought it for his 40th B-Day. I took my wife to Homecoming (high school) in this car, I bought the car from my dad in 1995, and my nephew took this car to his prom in 2015. It has history with our family, and although it sounds corny, when I drive it, it's like putting on an old pair of comfortable jeans. It's got chips, dings, some fading spots, but they all tell a story. Even though she didn't get ALOT of love while I had the GTS, I knew I'd have this long after that car was gone.

Just a few pics over the last weekend. Sean and I joked about this being like a weekend at the spa for her. It really was.
After all the work we did, she needed a good bath, so I got up early and did that.

Holy Mother of God!! Are we gonna have to go through this again about ride height when you replace your shocks?
I can't believe you are just now doing this for the Ol' Silver Bullet! How long have you had those shocks? The internal seals have probably all gone bad by now!!

Looking good Chuck. We'll have to park the Silver Bulit and my silver S4 together at 3rd Coast. I'd love to trade you cars for a day just to get a feel for the OB's.

Had a really good time hanging out with Chucky and the Silver Bullet for a few days. In Chucks usual fashion, we'd been scheduling the shock change for 6 months and the day comes to do them and we find all this other stuff that is more important. It was a good time to get some exercise also.
