Default 928 dash cover kit

I was wondering if any one has had a chance to fit the new 928 motorsports dash cover kit yet. Trying to decide on that as an option or, classic 9 dash kit. I see shawn and a few others have ordered the one from carl.

In my opinion, comparing the two is a major injustice to the products by Classic 9. I hope Robb never sees this thread.
It's like comparing a professional paint job to fix stone chips to putting on a car bra.

In my opinion, the vinyl covers are a temporary solution designed to be a stop gap between an old worn out dash and a Classic 9 product. Never intended to be a long term permanent fix.

This is my experience with overlay's. Only time will tell if this new product will withstand better then every other overlay offered over the past couple of decades:

I agree with that statement and that is why I'm asking. $350 is a lot for some sewn vinyl. I know it's really nice work and all but really!?

Classic 9 isn't selling a generic overlay, it's a tailored fit piece that looks & fits just like the original dash. Go visit a local upholstery shop and ask them for the same product, you'll soon discover $350 is a bargain.
My local shop quoted me $2,500 to replicate an original vinyl dash in my 80. And that was with me removing & re-installing the dash. They do good work, but it's not better than what I've seen from Classic 9.

I think you are confusing the products from Classic 9 with something like this which is around $50:

I have one of these in my 87 until I have Robb Budd @ Classic 9 make me a permanent replacement.

the cover I have is a custom made fitted part that will cover the whole dash and it will be permanent.
It is not vinyl, its Alcantera thats a trade name,
its the best suede type covering available for automotive and aircraft use,
yes their are less expensive copycats , but this is the real deal Alcantera.

Hacker, no confusion on my part. I know the diff between a plastic overlay and classic9 is huge. It's just that the one from 928 motorsports is supposed to be much better than the cheap overlays from the past. That is why I'm asking. It seems a lot of people jumped on carl's. I will probably go with robb buds in the end if he's not mad at me for starting this thread. Good people here for sure.

Anything looks better than a cracked dash and only time will tell of this new overlay outlasts previous iterations. Nothing wrong with going with an overlay, especially for the price. It's just not fair to compare them to something from Classic 9.

No way I was making any comp to classic 9. Not even close. Just wanted to weigh options poor man style.

http://www.classic9leathershop.com/9...r-porsche-928/

Leather, vinyl or Alcantara cover for the dashboard on all 78-89 Porsche 928 Automobiles non air bag models. OEM Style French Seams along the center and each end. Foam underlayment included.

What does this mean, from my dash, remove all the foam?

I think it's just a thin foam layer. 1/8 in thick?

I have shipped 6 of ours so far and asked each customer for pics before and after, so I can get you pics as fast as they can get them to me.

One challenge I have is those that may have tried the cheap-o dash overlays from eBay and expect our product is one of those. It is not. It is a much better product than that and that's why it comes with a lifetime warranty to never crack, fade, or warp.

I posted close-ups on our website so you can see the grain detail in the vinyl too.
