Default How to get to the wire clamp on the front cross-member

There's a wire clamp on the front DS cross-member for the wire that runs from the starter to alternator. The 10mm bolt is only accessible from the top of the cross member.

Any suggestions on how to get to the 10mm bolt? Or does everybody pull the wire through it?

Most if not all the cars I've had the fortune to r & r engines for already had this removed.

I've only done it once and IIRC I think it was before I completely installed the cross member.
Now the only way I do it is to remove the outer heat/friction rubber shroud surrounding the Starter to Alt wire (clean it and use WD-40) it will slip off then pull it out when removing.
Then use a stiff pull wire and pull it through the wire Loop to reinstall it, then reinstall the rubber shelding.

put your hand in the top area with a 10 mm box wrench, push the clamp either way to give good purchase,
use a 10mm 1/4 inch drive with 10 inch extension on the bottom,
easy

This is how I did it last night. No way I could get my hand up there and the prospect of trying to locate the 10mm bolt back later so I did as davek9 suggested. Thanks Dave

Funny. I did this last night too. Used the Stan/Dave method.

I had a lot more trouble with the p-clamp by the starter.

Your most welcome Kevin.
I'm also wondering about the use of a tool to hold the bottom nut, IIRC the bottom nut is welded to the cross member on S3 and S4's,

It’s (thing for p-clamp on top of x-member) a nylon lock nut on S4s. All the other’s (heat shields, p-clamp by starter) are welded-on nuts (or nut-like devices.)

Depending on the condition of the harness and the clamp, you can clean the harness and use silicon spray and pull it through. But Stan/Dan method works as well
