Wow. I thought Japan was high. Here they start at $20k all the way up to $90 for a GTS.
The first S4 I bought for $5000 with 39,000km but that was almost 20 years ago.
Such silly numbers may indicate market irrationality hence time to sell, for investors. But not for lovers like me and I suspect the majority of this forum.

Such a fine example too (not). Instead, I think someone promised a significant other that they were going to sell that damn sports car!

What I don't understand about current owners mentally is their lack of understanding of how your collective power can change the market value for these cars. Just don't give them away! It's that simple!
If everyone, collectively, decided to ask 10% more than what they previously considered, the market would change by 10%.

This is the mentality that parts car owners on FB have, when they demand $5-8k for a disassembled roller.
It doesn't work that way.
Sellers are -not- the 'market'.

I watched this with the air-cooled market and now with the 996 turbo market. Once owners stop giving their cars away, things changed.
I wholeheartedly disagree about who sets the market. The demand will always be there, especially once value is established and value can only be established by the guy with the cheapest car.

Maybe these guys should just raise their prices.
https://northmiss.craigslist.org/cto...643975023.html almost a month, with a price reduction
https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/c...641005835.html month gone, no offers. If he would only ask -- more, that would sell it.
https://appleton.craigslist.org/cto/...650532817.html running, driving, 5 sp, euro. Can't give it away. Maybe he should raise his price? Only two weeks so far.
https://swv.craigslist.org/cto/d/198...654142105.html triple black 86.5 - bargain of the century. Only needs head gasket work. I'm sure asking more would do it.

I am not so sure "Incomplete Projects" on CL are good examples of the discussion, those are parts cars until restored.
Although that SIlver 79 (NOT Euro) was tempting, until I saw the interior.
Cheers,
Dave

Why pay more when cheap options are there?

I've been in the Porsche world for more than 20 years. I've experienced and worked on nearly everything that's available. I can say with full confidence that early 911's are not good cars and not even good cars compared to 928's.
No 964 should not be commanding more money than any 928 of the same year, condition and spec.

Actually, that IS the point. The market has many, many, many agents for selling. Buyers set prices. People in this little 928 community have been telling themselves that the 928 is going to take off like a rocket! They've been saying it for 12 years, and so far all we've seen is gradual, predictable market climb. There was a nice blip last year, but other than that, it's flat. What YOU want the owner of a 928 to do isn't important. What the buyer wants is what's important. I can go to any of those sellers today and bargain $1000 off asking price. I know, because I've done it many, many times. Wishful thinking is fine, and good, but it is not an investment strategy.
Look at this; https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuati...n_Collectibles The 928 isn't even on the LIST!

Interesting discussion. I've often wondered about this because 1) Fewer 928s than 911s are in the USA, 2) Most 928s in the USA became altered basket cases or severely neglected, and 3) trying to restore a 928 is much more expensive than buying one in the top 20%. Why give away a nice well maintained driver+? Good ones are hard to find.
