928 Seven Deadly Sins
#31
Buying a pristine low mileage example and stripping it down to build a restomod when you could have purchased a roller and built the car of your dreams. I'm guilty of this and also doing a PPI on a rare low mileage model and the new owner did the same... except didn't build it. It got scrapped after the tear down.

This is one drooman and I watched happen for a few years on our route to Sebring:
Someone abandoned a clean black on black 928 at a shop after not paying the repair bill causing the owner of the garage push it outside, (unlocked in the hot sun and sweltering humidity.) Then we watched the uncracked pod, dashboard, seats and nice interior shrivel, crack, mildew and rot for years before the car finally disappeared.
Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Driving the car after disassembling the fuel system without pressure testing.
But so dark we Rennlisters are! Why not the 928 Cardinal Virtues? Here are a couple:
1. Prudence: While You Are In There
2. Fortitude: Do It Right

I would think that you are pretty far down the list of 928 sins by now. Just hope to God that he has a sense of what you were/are trying to do.

A common sin: Losing or Separating from the car the many loose items that came with the 928:
Owners books, warranty book, radio instructions, etc
extra keys, wheel lock keys, key card
sunroof crank
bulb kit
tools, jack, lug wrench
extra belts, spare spark plugs, plastic gloves, bag, etc
spare cover, spare, air compressor
Floor and cargo space insulation
A related sin: Forgetting to grab any of this stuff before sending one to the junkyard.

Another sin - kinda - is having a wife that does not understand our passion for these vehicles. When I left my 2nd wife she said no you can buy as many of those things as you want. Which I did and went out and purchased my 1983. Then 2 years later bought my 79. Sometimes it pays to get rid of the stress in your life.

My first wife came to me one day and told me that she was going to get a tummy tuck and an eye lift and I was going to pay for it. She was expecting a fight. I told her to go ahead, I am getting another Porsche. She looked at me and said that I didn't need another Porsche ( I only had the Schwartz car and the Stepson at the time). I told her she didn't need a tummy tuck and an eyelift either, but knock herself out. A week later, I was driving to Virginia to pick up the 89.
I feel that doing WYAIT things should be done and are necessary. Are not doing WYAIT things a sin?

#8 (possibly the deadliest sin): Letting your wife find out the amount you have spent fixing up your sitting-for-20-years-ran-when-it-was-parked supercar.
edit: I just saw Harvey928's post. I'm not copying.... I swear!

SIN #1; Letting one 'go to the crusher' because "It'll NEVER be a Show Quality Car".. Cars made to be driven NOT polished.
Mine sat on the lot of Black-Tie Classic Autos for 5 years (that I know of) at $5900..I got it for $3500 cash!!...That was 8 years ago. I have no doubt that it would have been crushed by now...
My '83 IS FUGLY, but it runs petty good for a 35 year old car...I'm into it another $6000 in parts so call it $11000 all in....
Where can I get this kind of performance and style for $11,000?? And they only made 719 of mine..LOL

I squawked when I heard a friend talking about the next car he was going to be getting for scrap, and he said that if I wanted it, I could have it...
A bit of quick salvaging to get the remaining useful bits and pieces off of the Jetta that was occupying the garage, and I offloaded it to the same scraper friend.
Now I'm fighting to find enough time in the day to accommodate normal activities and my new found time sink, digging through the forums here, as well as the various tutorials posted by members!

I have been down some "Unsinning" lately or, is it "De-sinification?
Anyhow, have been re-uniting those oddball pieces that float apart through time in the XX8 aka U-Boat.
Thanks to Jim Doerr I recently received the coveted tire changing bag of goodies. Does this mean that I go to 928 Purgatory instead of Hell?

Agreed; I believe in the mantra with these "So that others may live and prosper!"
some are just meant to be put down for keeps.
