Looks like a good foundation, and classic colors. In for the results.

My 1985 Gran Prix white. No rubs strips and RH wheels. |
Beautiful car,
Love the color and no-rub rails, but no jump post cover? No air filter or airbox? - To the scrap yard! Enjoy! |
Got some progress pictures, replaced the outer lower and top window door seals.
some pictures of the new shocks the freshened brakes and new CV boots. The CVs were bear of a job I had to put ice cubes on one of the halfshaft tubes before the puller could get the CV off , it got hot sitting in the sun. The right cam cover is off and the old oil block off pins are out the new parts went in with 574 loctite on the cap. Finally able to get some shine in the engine bay https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6038bbd7c8.jpg new window seals https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3985bad72d.jpg old worn seals https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b238496361.jpg one of four new CV boots and fresh SS brake lines https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...37cbcd9251.jpg LR new shocks and detailed rotors and new pads https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d3873ffff2.jpg RR the other side https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a9860bc830.jpg Old nasty covers https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e95dcf44a9.jpg the cams/ tensioners look good, replaced the 3 oil block off pins https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...932cbcc8fb.jpg finally some shine to the engine bay |
the oil pins had old rubber holding them in.
the fans were not working properly so I was off on a goose chase. Only to find a relay that was not the correct part in the X relay position, DOH... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...92ff6d1b50.jpg old oil block off pins https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d33280ccd8.jpg taking the final stage controller apart to add heat sink paste and inspect for corrosion https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...01d763efbd.jpg board looks good new paste installed |
Wow those boards get hot. That looks really discolored compared to the green it probably once was. Good thing the traces don't care.

Stan, thanks for posting pics. Of particular interest. we hear about these items a lot. :)

Stan, making quick progress, looking good! |
Nice!

Well some progress is being made and a few surprises are showing up.
I was going to be pulling the intake off and swapping in a fresh intake and cam covers, but all of that changed when I pulled the cooling hose off and found a water filled cooling system that was also holding a lot of rust. So upon closer inspection of the HGs it was evident that the HGs were weeping out the side of the block/ head interface, plus all of the rust the system had was not a good thing, I pulled off the water pump to find it was a rebuilt part, the cam gears and oil pump gear are worn, on and on and on, so like the saying goes , their is no such thing as a cheap Porsche. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...802663f7ea.jpg nasty old HG this system was sitting filled with water for atleast a year or more. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...526bd0fa21.jpg the HG fell to pieces as I pulled it off, all of the fire rings look to be in good condition https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c3d6ff7227.jpg the head has some minor pitting so far https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...58bc99fb50.jpg |
That's not as bad as I was expecting from what you were telling me yesterday. Glad ya dug in to it.
|
Awesome work Stan. Thanks for taking the time to post pics. |
Well got the left head off today,
the HG was in great shape compared to the right side. The right head looks like its gonna need to be welded and possibly one or two spots on the left head https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ba6e4414f2.jpg left side HG was in good shape compared to the right side possibly due to the HCV port letting coolant leak out and air to come in https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c26d98393b.jpg left head looks pretty good https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...819971523e.jpg Right head with the damaged areas circled https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ac72f36c76.jpg Had to get into the engine bay to loosen the head bolts they are a bear to remove for the first turn https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7d3adba69b.jpg more action in the engine bay |
Looking good, Stan!
|
Stan, why didn't you pull the engine once you noticed the heads where leaking?
Also, I have a pair of 88 heads with 105k on the shelf that just need to be cleaned. Came out of a running engine. |
