Default Need Fuel Sender Cup and Advice

My fuel tank vent system failed sometime after Hershey and the result was an advanced case of fuel tank collapse. My tank has now been inflated back to shape and my fuel sender survived with the exception of the nylon cup at the bottom. As a result I need a new cup if anyone has one. I also need tips on how to get the snapped off cap out of the ring at the bottom of the tank by some method more subtle than smashing it to bits.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give....

I'm pretty sure I have the cup. Traveling for work ATM, but will check when I get home.

Shoot me a PM in a couple of days as a reminder...

No, I did not get stranded. In fact, I was ignorant of the collapse until I had some friends over for a cookout and the car was up on the lift. Some of the guests were car guys/engineers I work with and one of them pointed out the sucked in tank.

I was thinking of Rick while I was adding arrows to the sender picture. I knew one arrow would not be enough and it just escalated from there....

Should have it together by PVGP, even if I have to fab a facsimile of the cup. I now very much regret not pulling the sender from a 944 that was at my local u-pull-it two years ago.

If I had the time and the tools, I would fab up a replacement sender because the Porsche design is typically over-complex and embraces many points of failure.

Hi Otto to get the old part out you could use a coat hanger with a L on the top slide it through the hole
removevthe sender first
Note you might be able to reattach your old coup with a big washer
obviouslt you also need to replace the valve in the engine compartment

If it's not crushed, you can fish it out.

Thanks guys, I was able to flip it over and pull it out of the hole with a coat hanger. If I can't secure another cup, I will follow Stan's advice and make up some plastic washers and sandwich the cup between them.

all the cup does is center the sender in the lower white plate.
dont forget to heat the sender nut in hot water prior to installing it

I'm still not understanding what part you need. Is it the one with part # 437 on it? I think I have one that is similar in the garage, that you can borrow.

Thanks Rick. I have plenty of those.

As I understand the 85-86 Evap system, there is a "thermal" valve that sends ported vacuum to the "control" valve that is on the strut brace on 86 MY cars. Anyone know how to test these devices?

Thanks Ed. I can repair the one I have pretty easily but would prefer to have an intact replacement part if it isn't too much trouble for you to dig it out and you don't mind parting with it. Please send me a PM if you find you have one.

Thanks again.

Default Think I know where it is.

Hi,
Sorry for the tardy response. I have eliminated all but one place. I think it is there. Will know after work today.
