Default ‘89 Timing Belt Sensor Continuity Check

Hi all. I’m planning on testing the continuity of my TB sensor wire, since my TB tension is correct and when I remove the sensor connector from the TB cover and ground it, I still get the alert at the 4 min mark.

I have already replaced the connector, so I was going to check the wire for continuity. I read somewhere I need to check it between the connector end and “Plug 3 Terminal 4” for 89+ cars.

Wouls someone tell me where is plug 3 terminal 4? Is that the lettered plug bank at the bottom of the ce panel?

ground out the sensor wire,

If you are grounding the wire that runs from the piston then there is a break between the piston and the connector at the cover. If you have the flat (blade-type) connector that runs off the piston, (or the braided wire for that matter) it must be broken. The flat connector is suspect as it cannot handle addequately any torsion that may occur with the tensioner.

I’m actually grounding the wire connector plug that goes into the TB cover and am getting the warning. I have already replaced the female connector that is in the TB cover that connects to the tab that leads to the tensioner piston.

The issue is somewhere outside of the TB cover, so I am trying to test the continuity of the wire that goes from the CE panel through the engine bay fo the TB cover.

So I'm looking at the '89 wiring diagram now and see the reference to Plug 3 Terminal 4 as the Timing Belt Sensor. I'm now suspecting that the plugs referenced are one of the four plugs that go into the back of the digital instrument cluster. The wiring diagram doesn't say that exactly, but anyone know for sure?

I'm looking at Sheet 4 of the WD and I am presuming the module with the dotted outline is the instrument cluster and the four plugs that enter the rear. Also it looks like if I follow the Toothed Tension Belt Switch wire, it goes into another module of some kind, however there is no detail on what it is. If I knew what it was and where it was, I could check for continuity there for a better focus. Right now I may just have to start at the toothed belt cable connector, unsheath the wire loom to inspect the wire, and follow it to wherever it goes to see if it connects to anything. If you have other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
