This is one of Carls products I’m a fan of and have recommended it to a few people thinking about it. After seeing the parts for Sterlings car it looks pretty well thought out. I sure wouldn’t think about doing it on a limited production model like a GT though.

What's the ball-park price for such a conversion? (It's already on my wish list.)
I have a special page just for that conversion here: https://928motorsports.com/parts/aut...pgrade_kit.php

It isn't cheap, owing in no small part tot he cost of the Porsche parts we have to have removed from donor car. Still, when compared to finding a 5-speed car and selling your automatic (especially if you like your current car), it can be the way to go.

Carl's Kit with shipping $5,500
Renegade kit for 928 engine to Z06 TT $2,000
Buying a C5 Z06 trans/diff and torque tube $1,500 plus
Rebuild of trans & diff by RPM $5,500 depending on the condition of the used trans and diff you find
Labor to install....not sure what Carl charges, but there is a considerable amount of time to remove old drive train and install new one.
$$....for all the other parts you will end up buying to replace old bushings etc.

Better to find the C5 Z06 Transmission, Differential, Torque Tube, Shifter Box, & Shift Linkage for the 6-speed conversion at a slightly higher price, but in installable condition with a guarantee. I sourced mine from Dino's Corvette for $3,850. The cost of the 928MS kit with the installation ($1,100) was about $7,000 total and that also included the GPS Pulse generator to make the speedo in my 79 work since the Z06 doesn't use a normal speedo cable, along with his rear suspension point tie-downs. The RSD Snap Shifter SSK was another $200 and the modified C6 gen ergonomic shift **** to work with the C5 gen shifter box was another $105. Depending on what kind of deal you find on the Vette parts, you're probably looking at $10k-$12k all in.

$1,100 is a deal for install if you live near by.

It might cost more sending the trans and diff out for rebuild, but at lest you know your getting the best parts and know what you have when putting back into the car. Plus you can change the gearing if you choose too.

From this page: https://928motorsports.com/services/..._installation/

Transaxle Kits
  • Installation of 6-speed in a manual trans 928 is normally $1100 depending on the car.
  • Installation of 6-speed in an automatic trans 928 is normally $1650 depending on the car.
Please keep in mind that installation by us is NOT required. Like all of our kits, I designed them to be installed locally and write up thorough installation instructions to ship with the kit. Many of our customers install these themselves or have their favorite shop do it.
