The Black Witch Revival Thread
Let me introduce you to "The Black Witch". The name was not arrived at lightly and all the reverance in the world exists for the fine work being done by skpyle on his car, "The Red Witch", which you can read about here...
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...928-owner.html The Black Witch is named by my wife, a non-RL'r who growing up would call cars that needed heavy TLC, "Witchy Cars". This car, a 1988 Black on Black, 5 speed S4 was acquired this past weekend in Orlando. The car has 179K miles and, except for a few months of ownership by the gentleman I purchased from (who had no resources to keep the car), has had 1 owner for its 30 years since passing through the port of Charleston, SC and through the sales office of Brumos Atlanta. Equally awesome is the owner of the car did whatever maintenance was needed, whenever it was needed. I know because there are 30 years of receipts on the car. Actually it is more like 26 years of receipts as the owner did little with the car the last few years but during his tenure as owner spent between $65-80K on maintenance. Here are a few pictures.... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c3f8741120.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ef96e49577.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9f61180c6e.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1ef1202ba0.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...86b4c7ef19.jpg This looks a lot different than my recent Intake Refresh! It will be fun getting past the dirt ;) https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...60872af72d.jpg And so the collection expands! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5d770c0097.jpg The working list is.... Fix Drivers Seat (not adjustable stuck in position) Fix 12V Drain Electrical System Maintenance (Clean Grounds, New rear ground cable [check], Deoxit the Central Panel) Fuel Lines All new fluids Wash the car (check) and Polish to see what we have (in process) Address Driver Door speakers not working Address Warps in Door Panels/Rear Panels Re-Tint the car (maybe) after Tint is stripped Fix AC ....and the 5,000 other things I'll end up wanting to do! |
It had to be fate as the car's ad hit CL in Orlando on Friday and by Saturday the owner's phone was ringing itself off the hook....
On Saturday, an interested party actually looked over the car, went on a test drive, made a deal on the car and went to retrieve the money from his car. WELL, the neighborhood was sketchy AND someone STOLE thousands in cash from the guy's car while he wasn't there. So the car was available, my wife suggested we go look at it and if we liked it, stay in a hotel and trailer it home first thing Monday. She PUSHED me to go look at it and said "You only live once!.... glad I married her last year. Now, we can't decide on who is more excited about the car.... me, my 15 year old son or my wife! Good Times. |
...Hood/hatch shocks... :D

Nice grab. Miles are less a factor with that wonderful history!
|

|

Congratulations Trey, you can't go wrong with a Black on Black 5-Speed!!
It makes it even sweeter that the WHOLE Family is excited about the new addition, that has to feel great! Cheers, Dave |

Seats could well be the switches. They have a tendency to go bad. Replacements are available, but not super cheap.
They can be taken apart and fixed. Thread I used here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...lace-them.html Battery drain can be a lot of things. Do you know how much? There are ways to hook an ammeter to find out. Then you just start pulling fuses until the drain stops. |
Congrats, shes a keeper. (Ditto on the car) :)
|
Nice ride and great name. I see a trend forming. We need more witches in other colors.

It makes it even sweeter that the WHOLE Family is excited about the new addition, that has to feel great! Cheers, Dave Thank you, Dave! Well, after burning the midnight oil doing paint correction, I remembered how much work black paint CAN be :) That's okay. I'm sure the other excited family members will enjoy the glossy improvement! In all sincerity, I would NOT be in the 928 Hobby if it wasn't for you and Jeannie, your company and your wonderful SITM event. At a time when I needed a strong bond with my kids, back in 2011, working on the 928 and getting it ready for SITM, made it happen!

Then you just start pulling fuses until the drain stops. Awesome. Thanks for the input and the link!

I'm very much in the honeymoon phase and my son and I have to get his 1987 924S running by end of year. The thread on his car is here.... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...92a9b8df17.jpg https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...-the-blue.html Due to the Blue Bomber, The Black Witch may improve incrementally through the Summer as it is looking like a HOT Summer here in Florida. |
A few more pics after significant effort correcting some of the paint defects....
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2ca17dd040.jpg Still some scratches that will need an even heavier duty cutting compound, I've ordered Meguiar's Heavy Cut Cleaner from Amazon.... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d6206b5c0e.jpg Some scratches (like below) are likely beyond my skills (but I'll try to make them look better!) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5a584f4435.jpg And there will be a visit to the dent doctor for this one.... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...24a3af11af.jpg I think we'll pull the rear bumper cover and determine what needs to happen with the below dent. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...fd72ea6fdd.jpg In the meantime, I've also got Nivea on the seats and it will stay there until I get back home on Saturday afternoon. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...205817f9c4.jpg The interior is a bit fried. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f9bc1de2d9.jpg I'm pretty sure I will delete the rear spoiler. This unsightly bump makes me want to take it off.... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8856b9f4d4.jpg The Black Witch will become her glorious self, eventually! |
